Scooter Bob Posted June 7, 2010 Author Share #29 Posted June 7, 2010 What a great day yesterday! Didn't get near as far as I thought, but a nice ride on lots of twisty 2 laners. I met up with Cecdoo for breakfast, and he lead the way on some nice roads for about 50 miles or so. Nice meeting you Craig, Thanks. Crossed into New Jewsey at Easton and then headed Northeast on county roads 519 and 521. Met a couple biker from the neighborhood while taking some pics for the VR scavenger hunt. Then back into PA (3rd time on this trip, so far...) for a bit and grabbed the big road across the 3/4th of the bottom of NY, and then back to the two lanes into CT through New Milford and Torrington, and to downtown Hartford. Stayed about 20 miles east of there in Vernon, CT. This morning, I'm going to take the two lanes to RI for breakfast, and then head North around the west side of Boston. Maybe meet up with a couple other VR members that are headed south from NH. Hope to get well into Maine tonight. Later, Scooter Bob

Leadwolf56 Posted June 8, 2010 Share #35 Posted June 8, 2010 Go down the Kangamangus Highway(not sure of spelling). It runs between Rt.s 93 and 16 in N. Conway N.H. Mt Washington is right there too. Rode this today from Conway NH to 93 and took off for Cape Cod. Very nice road, if you get the chance Rte 100 on the west side ofr the state is nice too. Bob, didn't get your phone call in time this morning. We were already in Boston. Hope the rest of your trip goes good.
Scooter Bob Posted June 8, 2010 Author Share #36 Posted June 8, 2010 (edited) I ended up staying with MAINEAC and Christine last night. This morning he lead us on a 100 mile putt over to the water and up to the top of Cadilac Mountain. Beautiful scenery from up there. Thanks so much for the hospitality, greatly appreciated! Here's a few pics. I have no idea where I'll end up, as I'm waiting out some rain right now in Lincoln, ME before I head up that Haynesville Road to Houlton and head back down I95. Scooter Bob Posted June 9, 2010 Author Share #38 Posted June 9, 2010 Sorry I missed you, I rode I70 in Western PA on Friday, was in Johnstown, PA all weekend, and live in the DC area! You would have been welcome to our guest room and we could have split the beer!! Ride safe, look me up next time! Damn, looks like I only missed you by 30 miles to the south that night. Maybe next time. Look me up if you ever get to WI. Later, Scooter Bob
Scooter Bob Posted June 9, 2010 Author Share #39 Posted June 9, 2010 Not sure what the big problem is... Stupid truck drivers I guess?? Guess I'll have to ride back here in the middle of next winter and try it again. NOT From what I here, back in the day this was the only road south from Houlton, and not near as good of shape as it's in now. More to come, Scooter Bob
Scooter Bob Posted June 9, 2010 Author Share #40 Posted June 9, 2010 (edited) Maybe I shouldn't go any farther in this direction.. Those big Avon's might float this ship, but I left my paddle in WI. This is from the top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park. More to come..Scooter Bob Edited June 10, 2010 by Scooter Bob

Scooter Bob Posted June 9, 2010 Author Share #42 Posted June 9, 2010 Only got a little over 300 miles on today, but a great ride and some great scenery with some great company this morning. On and off showers all afternoon, but no big deal. I ended up in Medway, Me tonight, about an hour north of Bangor. A little over 2,300 on for the trip so far. Found, by far, the best motel of the trip tonight so far. It's right off I95 at exit 244. I'm almost afraid to use the facilities for fear of dirtying things up. The Gateway Inn...a nice, new, clean place to stay WIFI works, and it's included, No bed springs sticking out of the mattress, Feet don't stick to the floor in the bathroom, No holes punched in the bathroom door, Curtain rod not falling out of the wall, A remote for the TV, Bathroom vent fan works, And you can buy a six pack at the gas station a block away, Yes, I've run into all these problems so far this trip... And some were at a Quality Inn. This place is highly recommended by me if you're ever in the neighborhood. The morning will probably bring long john's and the big wooly socks as they have frost warnings for the area tonight. Heading to Mt Washington in northern NH, and beyond. Hoping to get to Americade midday Thursday. We'll see how that all works out.... Later, Scooter Bob
ladyfyrefiter Posted June 9, 2010 Share #43 Posted June 9, 2010 Three lobsters are on the way from Bath, ME. Should show up on the UPS truck tomorrow afternoon. They actually held up the UPS pick up guy a couple minutes to get them out today. Enjoy your meal. Say Hi to your Mom and Daughter. :173:Wish you were here, Love, Scooter Bob Oh Scooter... You are in big, big, BIG trouble when you get home:buttkick: . My special package arrived this afternoon... Do you have any idea what you sent to me??? Did you see them actually pack the box??? I was sooooo excited to open that shipment. I got the freezer bags ready and the dogs are at my feet drooling because the carton smells like fish. I sliced open the tape, opened up the enclosed cooler, move the brown packaging off the lobsters, and noticed first of all that the things still had their heads on. I was expecting lobster tails, but that's not really the big issue. At least they put the rubber bands on the pinchers. So... here I go, I reached my hand into the cooler and grabbed one of the lobsters out, at the same time shaking open the freezer bag so I could slip the lobster right on in, but ALL OF A SUDDEN THE THING STARTED MOVING !!! I thought holy and just as quickly dropped the lobster right back into the carton. Did you realize that these things would still be alive when they got here??? I nearly peed my pants and at the same time, burst out laughing so hard I had tears running down my face. SOOO, I peaked into the cooler and the darn lobster that is on the top is winking at me, his antenae are moving all around and he is stretching trying to get out. These things have like six legs!!! Well, I carefully scooped up the top lobster and held it up (the thing is as long as from my elbow to my finger tips). Yes... the lobster is still winking at me. I showed the now drooling dogs what I had and Bean (the 100# yellow lab) runs away scared and won't come near me. Jakey (the 105# golden retriever) is still drooling like there is no tomorrow so I put the lobster near his face (the pinchers are still banded). He is thinking he has a new chew toy. So, what to do with them ... CALL MOM... She'll know what to do:confused24:. Yeah right. I called mom and told her what happened. She was laughing at this story until I told her that she was going to be the one cooking them. She said NO WAY, the heads are still on them!!! GUESS WHAT? I bought a beautiful 50 gallon aquarium for my new pets!!! I found directions from the Maine University on how to prepare the live lobsters for freezing so I will be doing this tomorrow after work. Right now, I put them in YOUR BEER COOLER with all of the ice I had in the house. Ha ha ha, :banana:I get the last laugh here. Jakey is going crazy because the lobster are moving around in the cooler and he can hear them. He is scratching at the cooler to try and get at his new toys. Since you have the camera with you, I am going to borrow a camera from a lady at work and take of these lobsters before I cook them up . I figured you (and probably the rest of the Venture riders here) would enjoy the tales of the small town country girl and will be rolling in the grass laughing your butts off. Like I said, wait til you get home. You had better be bringing flowers...Many, many flowers. I love you and am glad that you are enjoying your trip. Be safe out there and keep the rubber side down. Keep the pictures coming. Til tomorrow... Love Karen

Scooter Bob Posted June 9, 2010 Author Share #45 Posted June 9, 2010 Do you have any idea what you sent to me??? Did you see them actually pack the box??? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I new they were alive when they went in the box, but I had no idea they wouldn't freeze to death on the westward journey. They were in such a rush to get them and some other shipments on the truck, they didn't really have time to tell me anything about them. STILL:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Lookin' forward to the pictures honey. Talk to ya later, Love Scooter Bob
hunter 1500 Posted June 9, 2010 Share #46 Posted June 9, 2010 Lobsters need to be alive. If they are dead they are no good. Just drop them in some boiling water and cook them for about 10 to 15 minutes. You can tell they are done when they turn orange. I get hungry just thinking about them. mmm Just crack the shells, slice the tail and dip them in butter and eat away.
ladyfyrefiter Posted June 9, 2010 Share #47 Posted June 9, 2010 The pot of water is on the stove heating up :225:as I write this. I did not want to take the chance that they would die before I could get some pictures so I am cooking them now. Will cool them down and get them ready for freezing. Will take pictures around noon and then get them in the freezer to enjoy next week. OH what a beautiful morning. The sun is shining and the air is fresh. The birds are singing and shortly I am going to make some lobsters screech:yikes:. I am feeling somewhat like Hannibal Lectuer right now. Waiting for my morning phone call from Scooter while the water heats. I kinda figured you folks would see the humor here. Til later, Karen
