Last evening I fired up the bike - generally takes a bit to warm up and smooth out. I twist the throttle and it acts like it isn't getting fuel and the tach goes to 0. Let off and it goes back up again. Darn bike acts like it runs on 2 cylinders.

Turned around to bring it home. then it starts running just fine - open it up and it takes off like Boomer leaving his woman.

Any ideas about what happened?

Oh you mean about your bike problem......

Does it only do this while cold?

Yeah after it warmed up it was good to go. This morning no problem at all, though.

Rain or wash yesterday?

The tach is electronic and gets it's signal by tapping into one of the ignition coil primary circuits. Mine does the same thing if I really hose it out good.

After a couple miles the water evaporates and all is fine.

Like me, you may need to find a troublesome electrical connection.

Yah!! The usual source is the connector from the pickup coils up to the ignition module. You will find it about halfway up the frame...
Old thread but my tach went to zero a few times on the ride home tonight. Worked OK after getting completely warmed up. Engine ran fine so it seems to just be the tach pickup.

My question:

Is this suspect connector half way up the left side or right side frame?
