Mineral Managment Service has suspended US drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.

Hopefully this will not last too long. 77 rigs under contract right now in the GOM. another 46 not on contract as of this week. They are going to allow work over of the current wells. Also other countries not under MMS control can continue...

If this last very long it could mean around 15,000 or more folks will be layed off.

This could very easily cause spikes in Oil prices and we could see it at the pumps...

No word on when it will be lifted.

BTW...not trying to start an argument about whether they should or should not drill in the gulf after the on going disaster...just wanted to let you good folks know what is going on if you see a spike in prices.

Good to know. Thanks for the update. :thumbsup2:

I had overheard someone mention something about this the other day but hadn't taken the time to peruse the news myself to figure out what the deal was.

This is nothing more than an opportunity for the Oil Cartel to drive prices as high as they want. And thus PB will be able to also charge the higher prices (that they promised not to do) to help recover the cost of fixing their problem.:mo money:

Living in La., I'm not against drilling in the gulf. But, I do believe if your gonna attempt deep water drilling you should know how to fix it when it all goes wrong.

As far as prices going up...when it got around $4 a gallon, we still had no problem writing speeding tickets on I-49. Maybe people down here aren't smart enough to figure out they were buring more fuel running 85 to 90 mph or don't care. Actually, If I remember right, I figured people would really slow down and they did the opposite.
