RandyR Posted May 26, 2010 #1 Posted May 26, 2010 I noticed that a company named Hinson makes clutch baskets for numerous motorcycles, including some Yamahas. I wonder if there would be enough business for them to engineer one for the 2nd gens, that might be a better solution to the engine whine than the iffy I-basket from Yamaha? I haven't contacted the compnay, and a quick internet search doesn't find the manufacturer, only resellers....
Condor Posted May 26, 2010 #2 Posted May 26, 2010 Here's what I found Randy. http://www.hinsonracing.com/ Looks like they are more into racing products than building them for cruisers. I've been wondering if instead of going to an aftermarket, take a 1stGen MKI basket and R&R. IT might be quieter, and it'll have the springs instead of a disc?? I'm not ready to try it, but maybe it could be an option for someone who is at wits end.... ??
KiteSquid Posted May 27, 2010 #3 Posted May 27, 2010 What is the difference between the clutch basket in the RSV and the 1st Gen VMax?????
Condor Posted May 27, 2010 #4 Posted May 27, 2010 What is the difference between the clutch basket in the RSV and the 1st Gen VMax????? I think it's coil vs. disc springs. Here's a thread with info. V-MAX CLUTCH
Kirby Posted May 27, 2010 #5 Posted May 27, 2010 I think it's coil vs. disc springs. Here's a thread with info. V-MAX CLUTCH 1st gen Vmax has disc. At least my 99 does.
Condor Posted May 27, 2010 #6 Posted May 27, 2010 1st gen Vmax has disc. At least my 99 does. Yeah, you're probably right, that's why I suggested a MKI clutch assembly... They do have the springs..... Do you know if the clutch was 'disc'd' from the git-go in '85 or was it in 86 like the MKII's??
Kirby Posted May 27, 2010 #7 Posted May 27, 2010 Yeah, you're probably right, that's why I suggested a MKI clutch assembly... They do have the springs..... Do you know if the clutch was 'disc'd' from the git-go in '85 or was it in 86 like the MKII's?? I think it's been the same since day 1.
Pegasus1300 Posted May 27, 2010 #8 Posted May 27, 2010 No 83 thru 85 had the multiple coil springs and then with the redisgn for 86 the diaphram disk was instituted.
