Hummingbird Posted May 22, 2010 #1 Posted May 22, 2010 (edited) I'm changing oil AGAIN ! Last spring I changed to Amsoil, bike seemed to be OK, then it started 'whining' again so I bought a quart of MotorCoat and added a few ounces. The 'whine' got louder but I let it go until this year. After the few rides I've been able to do so far (about 300 miles) it seems like the 'whine' is still there and VERY annoying. Right now the bike is sitting in the garage dripping, has been for 20 minutes or so. I'm going back to Mobile One and NO Motorcoat - see how that does on the ride to DC this coming weekend. I guess I should qualify the above statement - my habits include camping with our Travel Trailer, fishing and I work a part time job. All of that means that I may get around 3 or 4 thousand miles a year. Changing oil twice a year IS expensive when it's $10 a quart and not enough miles to warrant a change. CMIKE Posted May 22, 2010 #4 Posted May 22, 2010 First let me say...I am a tried a true Amsoil fan. I have used that oil in racing bikes and seen some amazing things happen and the engines were fine and I believe it was because of the Amsoil. Also just about every test even MotoKote test says Amsoil protects against wear better. I use it in my VW diesel and all my bikes... But...I have noticed, I seem to have less gear noise with Mobile 1 20-50... another thing I notice when I first change the oil...seems the noise is louder and after a thousand miles or so it gets a little quieter with any oil. This may be my imagination. I have noticed that each time I change the oil. Why I cannot explain and it does not make any sense.

I ended buying Spectro synthetic from the local shop because they quit carrying Yamalube. When I changed the oil it seemed to be alot louder than before but now it seemed to quiet down.

Hummingbird Posted May 24, 2010 Author #10 Posted May 24, 2010 Where are you staying and what group are you with if any? I will be riding up on Friday and staying in Springfield VA. Sylvester - we are leaving Friday also and are staying at the Residence Inn on Blacklick Road. We aren't going as a rep of any group but most of us ( 9 ) are members of North American Plus 40. Our lead bike has been there more than several times, so I'm confident that we won't get lost more than anyone else. I don't have a room # yet but give me a call - 330-754-5640 when you get there.
