Sealed Bearing Question?

Just got a set of sealed bearings for the front end of my 1988. Question is the bearings are pre-greased but seem so very little, should I pack or use them as is. Thanks

You're talking about this type of bearing? Just install them and use them. No need to greese.

This really made me think. I would tell you to use them as they are; but I know I would grease them if I was installing them on my own bike.

So I know that doesn't help but I guess it is really up to the individual.

If it's a sealed bearing how do you know how much grease is in it? How are you going to add grease to a sealed bearing without ruining the seal?

Exactly. Sealed bearings are greased from the factory. They come with the proper amount of grease. There is no way to grease them.

 

The only way you can see how much grease is in them is if they are not sealed. If this is the case, they will look similar to the one I pictured above. But the black (some times other colors) plastic around both sides of the bearings won't be there. You will be able to see the individual ball bearings inside. This type do need to be greased.

In this picture. The bearing at the back (with red) is a sealed bearing. This does not need to be greased. The front bearing is a non-sealed bearing, it needs grease.
