Anyone interested in a day long ride around SE Ont?

Hi,

 

Here is a link to the map of a route I have in mind for a day long ride around part of SE Ontario some time this summer.

 

The motivation, besides getting some saddle time, stems from a nostalgic desire to relive a bit of my childhood by making a crossing aboard the Glenora Car Ferry. See the blue section between C and D on the map. I can't believe that these old boats still run and want to get one more trip in while I can. As long as the weather cooperates, its a very pleasant and scenic crossing of about 15 minutes duration. (I might even park the bike once across and do another round trip on foot just for the fun of it)

 

Any one interested to join me for all or part thereof? I am planning to go on a week day, since I have time off available and dislike weekend traffic. Other than that, I am flexible as to dates and open to suggestions, although SWMBO will, of course, have the ultimate veto power on any proposed dates. Also be aware that I am planning on an early start, somewhere in the 06:00 time slot I think. A rain date should be factored into the mix also in case of a washout of the primary date.

 

Notice, I have deliberately avoided any 401 travel as its not what I am interested in but it might make a quick escape route should anyone need or want it once the main attraction is done. In general, I am planning a leisurely ride and will not be speeding, too much.

 

I'll likely stop and do a bit of a look around Picton, lunch there is in my mind but I'll see how the time goes and how grumbly my tummy gets on the day.

I would be interested in going on this ride with you. However, July is pretty much blocked out for me as I will be away. Also the week of Jun 21 to Jun 25th I wont be able to take any time off.

 

I work weekdays, but usually can take time off if my partner is working and not on holidays.

 

I won't pick any dates as of yet as I am sure several others will also like to join in on this ride. So lets see what dates work out for the majority and of course yourself.

i will be keping my eyes on this thread. just might make it. depends on the day it is planned and what other plans wife might have. will be solo though if i come.

 

either tuesdays or thursdays would be my preference. or even weekends.

Yep sounds interesting to me as well. If I have some notice I can usually do these things. Just give us a date. A weekday would be solo for me.

Like others have stated, it all depends on the day... but I should be able to arrange to be free. Very nice route... my inlaws are in Peterborough and I have ridden up that way a few times.

Sadly for me Uxbridge is 3 hours away for me, too long of a day, BUT ....

My buddy has access to a cottage in Havelock, a few of us had planned to go there, do a run up and down hwy 507, Buckhorn Rd., (you MUST be familiar with that stretch of motorcycling heaven!) spend the night at the cottage and then come back home. So I read your posting and did a little research on the ferry:

Is it free? I couldn't find a price anywhere? Does it land in Picton or Lake on the Mountian? We were contemplating coming home on your return route most of the way, but jumping on the hwy around TO to get home. Any suggestions or hints of good places to stop, eat, rest or sightsee would be appreciated. Thanks bud!

We make a day run out there a couple times a year. That is nice riding. Long Days though.

sounds like a great ride. even if it was a two day with stop over.

Unfortunately, weekdays are a challenge. Would be a great Saturday/Sunday run.

I can attest to this as a great ride as we just did this ride and more(Follow the St Lawrence to Cornwall Via 1000 islands and Hwy 2)on the long weekend in May. We stayed in Gananoque and made it a three day ride. Your route is a long way and is guaranteed to be a long day but worth it. Won't make your ride as this is a busy month. The ferry is free to whomever was asking and runs every 15min on weekends.

Have a great ride and maybe we will meet up someday.

If you are ever up this way...you just have to ride this circuit.

• from Kingston, Take 38 N to Godfrey = Westport Road.
  
• Westport Road to Westport...great town for lunch, tourist stop...on the Rideau Lake
  
• From Westport, take the mountain access that leads to Bolingbroke....eventually comes out at Crow Lake...you end up back to #38 about 10 miles north of where you started.
  

Total trip is about 1 hr 15 min (from Godfrey)

 

It is a nice ride...lots of twisty roads, lakes and nice scenery!
