jvbailey3 Posted May 10, 2010 #1 Posted May 10, 2010 Ok, I removed the passenger set to secure one of the HSH (Holy S**T Handles) and go to reattach the seat and I realize that one of the screws/bolts are stripped. I would be willing to accept the blame; however, it never tightened completed. Now I realize I can't get it back out again should I need to tighten the HSH again. That being said, again I would like to proclaim to the world my ignorance of all things mechanical. So now my problem is how do I get this bolt/screw without having to take it to the dealer and have him charge me for what they probably did in the first place. Or is this something that I am going to need help from a more mechanically apt and better stocked individual. TIA P.S. I was only able to take off the passenger seat because I happened to read in here somewhere that the bolts for the passenger seat was located under the driver's seat. P.P.S. I was also only able to remove the driver's seat through the gracious and kindness of another individual here who walked me through removing it on the phone - lol. Did I mention I am totally mechanically inept. It is sooo bad, that the Air Force almost did not let me enlist because of the mechaniccal portion of the ASVAB even though I scored off the charts on everything else. Again, TIA:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:
RedRider Posted May 10, 2010 #2 Posted May 10, 2010 Well, there are several ways of removing this bolt. However, I doubt with your self admitted non-mechanical ability you would have the correct tools. All is not lost though. Keep an eye out for a Maintenance Day in your area and go there. Usually, you will find the host with cabinets and chests full of interesting implements of destruction for removing said errant bolt. He can likely even retap the nut so a new bolt can be inserted. Now, as to the HSH tightening. You did use BLUE Locktite on those bolt, didn't you? If not, have that done at the MD also. This is a good tube of goo to have on hand. Any MD host will have several tubes - it's kind of like WD-40 - the tubes just multiply by themselves. If you go to purchase some, make sure you get the BLUE and not the RED Locktite. They both come in a blue tube, but the RED has some red labelling. It can be confusing - so just ask if you are not sure. RED Locktite requires significant heat to remove a bolt. Blue just keeps it tight, but the bolt can still be removed. Hope this helps. RR
