catman_4_ever Posted May 10, 2010 #1 Posted May 10, 2010 On the way home from work last night my bike developed a terrible wobble. After giving the bike the once over, I discovered the right side trunk mount bolts were missing. Who would have thought that could cause the wobble in the steering. Replaced the bolts and back to normal.
Yeah, Just Dale Posted May 10, 2010 #2 Posted May 10, 2010 Was it at a certain speed? Accelerating? Slowing down? Hard to believe the trunk mounts could cause that unless it was really shifting around.
catman_4_ever Posted May 10, 2010 Author #3 Posted May 10, 2010 Usually when hitting bumps on the road. Wisconsin roads are pretty bad as soon as the frost comes out. It feft like the front tire was going down
Yeah, Just Dale Posted May 10, 2010 #4 Posted May 10, 2010 Lake effect snows wreak havoc on the roads here too. Ride safe.
Eck Posted May 10, 2010 #5 Posted May 10, 2010 Sounds like your Steering head bearings may be loose. its a quick fix... Look in tech section for adjusting steering head bearings.. Takes longer to jack the bike up then it does to fix it..

Replaced the bolts and back to normal. very interesting.. I usually give my bags a tug and a shake once in a while as I had the bolts come off the bags on another bike before.. But I guess the winds catching in between the bags and bike would buffet a lot and make the bike wobble.. Another good reason to do checks on our bikes on a regular basis.. Thanks for the heads up!
