rumboogy Posted May 3, 2010 Share #1 Posted May 3, 2010 No, not what you think. Just curious if there is a "trick" to the passenger getting off the bike without looking like they are falling off the bike. How does your passenger dismount? Keep it clean. Hummingbird Posted May 3, 2010 Share #3 Posted May 3, 2010 I usually don't have any trouble but getting off the bike is always fairly simple. I dismount and that allows her to slide forward to my seat and dismount as I just did.
BuddyRich Posted May 3, 2010 Share #4 Posted May 3, 2010 I stand on the right side of the bike to steady it (she thinks),well I hold the handle bars so the don't swing.. Then she uses the handlebars as if she is getting on the front but sits on the back seat. Something like that, sometime she's holding onto the her backrest and the handlebars. If getting off is a problem have her try sliding down into your seat then get off. SilvrT Posted May 3, 2010 Share #5 Posted May 3, 2010 I get on... the bike that is. I bring the bike up off the sidestand and steady it. She gets on from the left side...puts her left foot on the footboard, grabs onto the backrest, centres her body over the bike and swings her right leg up and over the seat... sits down. Reverse that to dismount.

wes0778 Posted May 3, 2010 Share #11 Posted May 3, 2010 Sometimes I just tip the bike far enough she falls off! Been there done that!!! I always let the passenger get on/off while the bike is on the kickstand and I'm standing on the left side, to act as "catcher". The gyrations necessary to actually mount/dismount are up to her. Brake Pad Posted May 3, 2010 Share #15 Posted May 3, 2010 I hold the bike steady, and she climbs up using my arm and the upper back rest, she stands 5'0 I think its easyer for her. I'm 6'4"
petekadish Posted May 3, 2010 Share #16 Posted May 3, 2010 I put the bike on it's side-stand, and then I stand with both feet firmly on the ground while holding on to the handlebar grips. Sandy then swings her right leg over the driver's backrest, pivots on her butt, and steps off the left side. This technique helps maintain the bike steady, and she has a nice and controlled step-off. Be Safe! Pete.

bongobobny Posted May 3, 2010 Share #21 Posted May 3, 2010 (edited) Unless we were on some rugged or uneven terrain, I would let her get on first while I "steadied" the bike (Not really). She does as described, left foot on the florboard, then swing her right leg over. Then I would get on, pop the bike up, and away we went. In cases where I was alreadsy on, she would steady herself with her arms on my shoulder and get on. Geting off, I'm off first, then she just swings her right leg over and slides off nice and lady like... Edited May 4, 2010 by bongobobny
dunvilsteev Posted May 3, 2010 Share #22 Posted May 3, 2010 I do everything, off and on, on the kickstand, lowering the backrest first, she gets on the left side same as most. And to really get her off I take her shopping!

Guest tx2sturgis Posted May 3, 2010 Share #25 Posted May 3, 2010 I get on... the bike that is. I bring the bike up off the sidestand and steady it. She gets on from the left side...puts her left foot on the footboard, grabs onto the backrest, centres her body over the bike and swings her right leg up and over the seat... sits down. Reverse that to dismount. This is the standard method for large touring bikes and the one I have the passengers adhere to. Be sure to stand up and move slightly forward, your thighs steady the seat against sideways motion, your arms and hands steady the front of the bike, have both feet planted well, and instruct her to not get on OR off till you say OK. With her on the left side of you, her left foot is placed on the left passenger footboard, her right hand on the seatback, her left hand on your shoulder for balance. She steps up and over, (passing her right leg THRU the passenger seat area, not swinging it over the trunk) and sits down. and yes, she reverses it to dismount.
