ablumny Posted May 3, 2010 Share #1 Posted May 3, 2010 Hello NY's!. My daughter attends Keuka College, on Keuka Lake. Closest real town is Penn Yan. Any members from the area? This area is about an hour south of Rochester, 30 mins SE of Canandaigua, 30 mins SW of Geneva. Anyway, I had to run up there (from Long Island) to solve a car problem this weekend for her. (long story) While I was driving around to find the local CarQuest, I saw a beautiful Gold first gen on the driveway of a Penn Yan home. Anyones here? I saw a couple of 2nd Gens lined up at a Penn Yan gas/food mart with 20 other bikes as well on Saturday.
bongobobny Posted May 3, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 3, 2010 The gold 1st gen may have been Bull's, he lives around that area. There are a few members in the region. We are a litle more west...

ablumny Posted May 11, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted May 11, 2010 Unbelievable! I run up there two weekends ago, buy a new battery, get the charging system tested (ok) as best I could from the local auto parts guy and a week later the new battery is dead. Since the charging system is putting out over 14v all the time, I assume there is a drain on the system when the key is off somewhere. Fortunately I hooked up with a garage a mile from the college and (Marhts) and he's been accommodating. She says the dome light is in in the off position and didnt leave the headlights on. Everything else is dead when the key is off. ARGH! Hello NY's!. My daughter attends Keuka College, on Keuka Lake. Closest real town is Penn Yan. Any members from the area? Freebird Posted May 11, 2010 Share #8 Posted May 11, 2010 I wish I was in the area, would be happy to help out. It can be hard to find that sort of problem.
ablumny Posted May 11, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted May 11, 2010 Appreciate that Freebird. I dont think I'll have to beg for help . I like this guy at the garage I found and it's 1 mile away on the same road as the college. What complicates the problem, aside from me being 300 miles away, is that she expects to turn the key and drive all the time without fail and anytime there is any hint of an issue you;d think she'd was just delivered life altering news! She eats my heart out !! KIDS! I wish I was in the area, would be happy to help out. It can be hard to find that sort of problem.

bongobobny Posted May 11, 2010 Share #12 Posted May 11, 2010 Trunk light staying on???
ablumny Posted May 11, 2010 Author Share #13 Posted May 11, 2010 Thanks guys. The mechanic checked all switchable lights, all of them function correctly and aren't staying on. The cigarette lighter is shutting off as it should when the key is off. He says the charging system is functioning correctly. He said something about a defective alternator thats charges correctly, staying in a position when the engine stops, that may cause a drain. There's somethign causing an intermitant and quick discharge.
Poledar Posted May 12, 2010 Share #14 Posted May 12, 2010 And they say New Yorkers aren't friendly!!! (At least, down here in South Carolina, they say that!! I never found it so when I lived there.
ablumny Posted May 13, 2010 Author Share #15 Posted May 13, 2010 Well, two days in the shop and no trouble found! No excess drain on the battery when the key is off and a perfectly working charging system on a new battery. The thing started for them multiple times under multiple conditions. So frustrating! For some reason the garage didnt charge me anything though!
