Lone Eagle Posted October 8, 2011 #26 Posted October 8, 2011 As another data point, yesterday my HID died. I suspect the ballast. Installed 6/27/2010 Died 8/21/2010 Approximately 5000 miles I'm going back to the SilverStar Ultra. It has lasted about 35,000 miles so far, and is plenty bright. Dave Dave, didn't it come with a warranty? I installed one on my bike - went out very quickly - was the ballast - sent it back and got a new one under warranty - new one workds great (to date).

Dave Dave (and anyone else using the CCC HID), You MUST put a switch in line with the light. HIDs don't like to be turned off and then back on quickly. It kills the ballast. When you start the 1300, voltage drop to the system falls below the voltage required to maintain the HID and it turns off. As soon as the bike is running, it turns back on. Had it happen to my CCC HID. After bugging CCC for a while, they provided a warranty replacement. I have installed it along with an LED indicated switch. Turn off the HID before I turn off the bike. Turn the HID back on after starting the bike. Has worked flawlessly all this riding season. The previous unswitched version only lasted a month or so. I still carry a backup SS Ultra in my saddle bag tool kit, just in case. I certainly enjoy the additional light being thrown down the road and the extra watts available for other farkles. RR
wes0778 Posted October 8, 2011 #28 Posted October 8, 2011 Not at all, it plugs into the headlight harness and acts just like the regular headlight. I dont think I have heard anyone installing a switch on it ....so when are you ordering it I did install a switch(it was already there) in the (red) main power wire, although I have, so far, not needed it. The light stays on just fine when I start the bike. The installation was very simple. I uses double sided tape to stick the ballast to a flat part of the inner fairing. Oh, there was one "opportunity" with the installation, the plastic fuse holder is "crap" so run by the local parts store and pick up one, before you start. Other than that I love it!!! It does however make my stock passing lights look like I have yellow fog light bulbs.
BoomerCPO Posted October 8, 2011 #29 Posted October 8, 2011 The HID which Squidly installed on my Venture last year has been trouble-free and running strong since the date of install. Very bright at night....so much so that I can NOT use the High Beam as it completely blinds oncoming drivers at night! I run High Beam during daylight hours and I can say it does improve your visibility by a huge margin compared to anything else you could have on the scoot. I'm very happy with the durability of the HID bulb.... but I do plan to order a replacement bulb to have on the scoot just in case the current bulb goes out on me. Also...the HID lights up the roadsides very nicely as well when used at night in either the Low Beam or High Beam mode. Boomer....with Thanks to Squid for the install and being a great buddy.
