Is there a way to rig the flashers on an RSV to operate without the key turned on? It seems to me that in an emergency, you'd want them to work even if the ignition is off.

Help! :scared:

I had the same thought yesterday. If it breaks down, just leave the keys in it, insurance will pay off for theft, then you buy a new one from Yamaha.

Ponch and I worked at this a little over the phone a few months back.

If I can find a willing guinea, pig I may try to figure it out at Don's MD.

I don't have acsess to an RSV.

Gary, you're welcome to tear into mine. I tried again a couple of weeks ago and nothing made sense. I tried grounding the trigger wire with the power applied directly to the flasher and flasher relay (with both disconnected from the rest of the circuit). Nothing worked. I resoldered all the conections that were temporarily spliced to put the system back to stock and gave up.

If we can't get it to work, I think I will install a separate strobe system for use on PGR missions that will suffice as a "key-off" emergency flasher.

I found an interresting how to for valkaries that may have some merit.

Say you want to add four way flashers and you also want a turn signal buzzer. You don't want the buzzer to buzz when the four ways are on and you don't want the buzzer to buzz while you are sitting at a red light in a bunch of traffic making that silly embarrassing noise while our blinker blinks. Just adapt the above circuit to your existing four ways (if you have done them already - see Four Ways for Five Bucks) or, if you DON'T want fourways and just a buzzer, eliminate the fused lead, the flasher and the switch and hook directly to your ORANGE and BLUE wires. The ORANGE and BLUE signal circuits should come from under your right side cover. So that the buzzer will be silent with the brake light on for both the hand lever and the brake pedal, grab the GREEN/YELLOW from the harness that goes under your fender to the rear brake light. Very simple. The four ways will not make the buzzers buzz and putting on the brake light will kill the ground for the buzzers and they will be silent. But, when you go on your way, they will buzz with your signal. This has two advantages. One, it will make cagers notice you and two, it will remind you to turn off the dern signals when you need to. Works great! Get any piezo and Radio Shack as loud as you need it. This can all fit under your right side cover.

Gary and Ponch, thanks for the suggestions. I have decided to take the easy way out and bought a few battery operated red LED flashers that have clips on the back and easily clip to the tour pak when the lid is unlatched. These are highly visible strobes that can be seen a mile away, day or night, and if I have to be parked with the ignition off and need to be seen, these will do the trick. Very inexpensive at ACE hardware ($7 for a 2-pack). Problem solved!
