For those of you with a modular helmet AND headsets...any problems with radio or intercom because of wind noise?

I've always worn a full face & just bought a set of HJC Symax II modular helmets. I knew modulars had more wind noise than a fullface, but after a test ride tonight in 20mph breeze, there's quite a bit more noise...so much in fact that I'm wondering if installing new J&M headsets is going to give decent results or be a waste of time.

I'm guessing others out there are using a similar setup successfully but just wanted to verify while I can still return the helmets for refund if I choose. :confused07:

I took two small blocks of foam rubber and cut them to fit in the area beside the ears. I did not make them thick enough to touch my ear but close. Then I mounted the Velcro to hold my speaker on this foam. This solved my problem by decreasing the noise and moved the speakers much closer to my ear.

Before I bought the headset the radio was at 18 to 21. Then I picked up a head set for the open face helmet and the volume control was reduced to 12 to 14. I just got a Nolan N103 and it works like a charm, now it is down around 5 or 6. This tells me the background noise is substantially lower.

... between full face and modular IMHO. Have a Shoei full face (RFR?) and an HJC IS-MAX modular. I guess the modular is a little bit noisier but that could be because from different manufacturers. Have used IMC headsets for years on a Valkyrie and they're fine. Less expensive than the J&M and as I say work like a charm. I bought another set for the Venture when I got it and have been riding with it about month. City, highway, works fine. Occaisionally have to turn up the volume a bit at highway speeds over and above the automatic volume increase tied to speed. Not blasting by any stretch of the imagination. I like the modular helmets in terms of getting them on and off while wearing glasses, being able to flip one open to take a drink at a stop without removing the whole thing, etc. I think any headset will work fine with a modular helmet. May have to be a little creative with running wires if you don't go with a boom mic.
