I have only started looking and found the HJC IS-16 interesting. Has anyone an opinion on one of these that had worn one?

One thing is a I noticed a year ago while skiing is that I develop anxiety with those close fitting sunglasses after about 10 minutes. I am wondering if I will experience the same thing with this helmet.

The attached image will give you an idea of the glasses I had a problem with. Dunno if it has to do with the curvature of the lens or not.

I've never been a big fan of modular helmets, or full face helmets in general. I keep one to wear with my cold weather gear, but other than that I don't wear anything but my half hat. I always kind of feel closed in when wearing a full faced, and even though it's not true at all, I feel like it limits my vision.

I have the glossy version of that helmet and love it. The lens doesnt distort from side to side at all and the sun shade is very non distorting as well. Occassionally I have to pull the helmet down a bit in the front as I think the sun shade should come down a bit more, but other than that it fits my big round head real well.

i tried on a IS and a FS when i was shopping for helmets. my glasses aren't quite as wide as yours, but mine were not affected at all. my glasses are 5 3/4ths inch edge to edge with the legs behind the ears being 6 1/4th inch apart ( i got a fat head! ) and they don't press at all with the FS on. the shape and width of the IS vs FS seemed to be the same when i was trying them on. I went with the FS cause it was cheaper :D

what I do is go to the local shop and try them all on for fit, then order the one i like online. thats what i would suggest.

I thought you had one but was not sure. Would you think I might have that anxiety thing like I do with those sunglasses i has on in that pic? That inner shield looks close.

ya see, I do not know what about those sunglasses caused that. Normal sunglasses I am fine with. I think I may have heard it could have been the curvature of the lenses on the sunglasses that causes that. But then those sunglasses were right up on my face too.

So, no distorion on the inner lens is good, lol.

i will check out the FS model too. New Enough has the IS for cheaper than I am finding on the Internet. They are showing $137 to $144.

Have you looked at other helmets too. I have a Scorpion full face that I like. I think it is a 700 series.

They have a new one that is full & 3/4 w/ a face sheild.

EXO-900

They even have accessories for more colder weather riding, that you plug in and it clears up the fog on the faceshield. Web-site says it is just like a defroster in a car.

I have a modular version of that helmet and must say I love it.

My wife and I both wear glasses and have had no problem with the sun visor.

In addition I usually ride with my sunglasses on and if I am riding directly into the

sun at the start or end of the day I drop down the sun visor and it really helps.

I've been looking at the Shark and Scorpion Line. Scorpion modular is interesting but a bit tinny plus you'd have to carry the parts with you. I like the full flip up and over feature of the Shark but it is pricey. The Scorpion runs about $280 and the Shark in the upper $3's.

Good Luck.

The inner shield really isnt that close to my face as my glasses still fit underneath it so I think you will be fine. I would try one locally if you can find one and then see if they will let you go outside and flip the sunshade down and see if it comes down far enuff for you. When I look down at the instrument pod i am looking below the shade, which I like by the way. But sometimes I put the helmet on a bit high in the front and the shade ends in my line of vision until i pull the front of the helmet down.

BTW I also find it cooler than my 3/4 helmet because it vents so much better, and actually there has been several times Ive actually felt cold at the vents at the back of my head. I ride with the outer shield up quite a lot and the sunshade down. The helmet is a bit noisy though, because of the venting i think, and it seems to filter out most of the whine my transmission has, so i hear the Jardines a lot better....lol

Yeah ,,,and the sun shade is free of distortion too....lol!

That is the helmet I wear now. It fits just awesome and it feels great. My complaint is I find it very noisy when I am on my small bike with no windshield or when I have my short screen on my Venture.

just my :2cents:

Webbikeworld.com has reviews and comparisons on pretty much every helmet worth buying which is tons of them, their usually pretty dang accurate with their reviews and they don't hold back when it comes to bad features and designs, it makes for a good research tool when helmet buying.

But really you should find a shop to try them on also to get an idea of the sizing and fit because even the best helmets are pretty useless if they don't fit correctly.
