Starbird Posted October 15, 2007 #1 Posted October 15, 2007 I had to change my '99 RSV front brake discs recently and found that the right chrome disc cover has a weight in the inside. I have never really cared for the looks of the covers and was considering not putting them back on but the weight changed my mind. Does anyone know what purpose the weight serves and is it necessary?
pegscraper Posted October 15, 2007 #2 Posted October 15, 2007 I took mine off once because I have the rotor covers and they're not seen anyway. I was going to put them on the wife's bike. But I discovered that the front brakes squealed without that weight in there, so I had to put them back on my own bike.
Lone Eagle Posted October 15, 2007 #3 Posted October 15, 2007 I think Squid took his off - and left them off - you might want to ask him.
Squidley Posted October 15, 2007 #4 Posted October 15, 2007 To answer your question, I dont know why the weight is in there But I did remove mine as I think they are ugly as sin. I like the look way better without them. I have had no adverse effects by their being gone, I also haven't noticed any squealing of the front brake either. BVinson has them removed also on his bike, hopefully he'll chime in on his experiences with them off. I would leave them off if you dont care for them, you can always put them back on at a later date if you wish
