Guest Bob57 Posted April 25, 2010 #1 Posted April 25, 2010 Hi everyone, I am brand new to this forum. I just purchase a 1993 venture today. I started it up and drove it on the trailer. When I got home (209 miles) it would not start. The engine turns over but does not fire up. The fuel lever in on fuel and the fuel gauge reads half a tank. I am really frustrated and do not know what to do. Can someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!! Thanks,:240:
oldgoat Posted April 25, 2010 #2 Posted April 25, 2010 ok im not trying to be funny but is the kill switch off? others will join in here and help im sure.
Guest Bob57 Posted April 25, 2010 #3 Posted April 25, 2010 Yes, if the kill switch was on it would not turn over.
GigaWhiskey Posted April 25, 2010 #4 Posted April 25, 2010 Did it rain really hard on the way home? It is a serious question, not messing with ya.
93 venture Posted April 25, 2010 #5 Posted April 25, 2010 Some have had problems with the kickstand switch. I have never tryed to see it mine will even turn over if the kill switch is on.
oldgoat Posted April 25, 2010 #6 Posted April 25, 2010 i got a 84 it turns over with kill switch off??
Rocket Posted April 25, 2010 #7 Posted April 25, 2010 I have found that mine can be fun to get initially started, after trailering an extended distance. Possible flooding from fuel sloshing around, during transit??? Hopefully it is just that simple of a problem, with yours.
93 venture Posted April 25, 2010 #9 Posted April 25, 2010 Cant you hear the fuel pump clicking when u first turn on the key? also do u smell gas while cranking it over like its flooded, they can flood very easy.
Monty Posted April 25, 2010 #10 Posted April 25, 2010 Twist the throttle all the way open, and then try to start it. If it's flooded, this will open the butterflies, allowing air in, and it should start. Don't let off the throttle until it starts.
mavericksix Posted April 25, 2010 #11 Posted April 25, 2010 Just a thought, you might want to pull the plugs and have a look. Could be fouled. They are cheap to replace and something to cross off you list. Semper Fi
GeorgeS Posted April 25, 2010 #12 Posted April 25, 2010 Drain the Carb bowls, and the Fuel tank, Completly, Each bowl has its own drain hose, #2 phillips to open drain. Work the Side stand switch a few times. If bike had been sitting for a long time, maby Crud in the tank got rilled up. Pull the plugs and check what they look like, probably needs new plugs anyway !! Also, with all this cranking and NO Start, better Charge the Battery
bongobobny Posted April 25, 2010 #13 Posted April 25, 2010 Where in NY are you?? Is it getting spark?? There are several things that can go wrong with the ignition circuit, especially with moisture...
Venturous Randy Posted April 25, 2010 #14 Posted April 25, 2010 Give it a little choke and NO throttle. Sometimes, my bike will not even fire if I am giving it throttle, cold or hot. RandyA
painterman67 Posted April 25, 2010 #15 Posted April 25, 2010 hello Bob, welcome to the site. My cdi box got wet and did the same thing. Bike would turn over but not crank. Now if you cant get it to crank you could always put the old girl back on the trailer and bring her to NC. Im in kneed of some more parts fro my 91. HEHEHEHEHE seriouslt though these are nice bikes so hope it something easily fixed and welcome aboard. Anyways just sitting still and not cranking its still faster than a second gen. DAvid
