Vacum leak??

When I pull in clutch on my new to me 86 it wants to rev and then drop back down. It will go up about 1k quickly and then drop back down but not as fast as it should. Hasn't been wanting to idle. Have to choke it to keep it running most of the time. Thought I just had some crud in it. Don't think this is related to reving. Sea-foam and it will idle now most of the time when it is warmed up. Sound like vacum leak? I couldn't find one but didn't spend lot of time looking was busy putting back shifter that fell off.

Its giving me fits getting it to run like it did when Skid had it. I got it and it don't want to run. Can't find vacum leak. It is running better still takes forever to warm up. All kinds of parts falling off. But man the torque this thing has. Twist right hand and hold on tight!!!

Clutch is not right. Skid said it always shifted hard but my 85 is smooth as you could want one. Oil not that old. Needs flushed out I think. I'm getting there. Every time I look at it it says "Wipe me off" I've never had one that I cleaned more than I rode. And my Crackhead neighbor loves to raise clouds of dust as he goes by my bikes. Wish they would keep him locked up.

Give this a shot Dan. I had the sluggish return to idle on the '91, and that was after tossing a sync at it. It acted just like a vacuum leak. I reset the idle jet to 2.5 turns out, and then backed way off all the sync screws. Then I fired the bike up and adjusted the idle to 1000rpm on #2. With that set I adjusted the sync screw on #1 until the idle rpm started to barely increase, and then backed it off a smudge. Then I let the engine get up to running temp. Turned it off and connected the Carb-Tune. Fired it back up and #2 and #1 were almost perfect...just needed a very small tweak to get them equal. All the while the engine idled like cr@p. The sync on #4 and #3 were so far out it wasn't even funny. Well maybe it was... :) One rod all the way at the bottom and the other all the way to the top. I started turning sync screws and they started to balance. When they did the idle started to climb toward 2000rpm. When it got over 2000, I backed the #2 idle screw off to 1000 again. Careful it can get warm in there... I kept fiddling with the the right side screws until I got #4 and #3 balanced. Then I balanced the right side to the left. Readjusted the idle one last time, and the motor runs great. Responsive and returns to idle like it's supposed to. Basically it's starting a sync from scratch. BTW while tweaking the right side screws the motor giggled, farted and backfired until things started to come together. Don't let it scare you, just keep adjusting.

I do hesitate a little at getting in these carbs. This thing has always( as long as I've known it) ran great and gets mpg's in the high 40s sometimes 50s. It still will jerk you off the seat at WOT just won't idle worth crap and takes forever to warm up. The plugs are still in the carbs.
