The chrome / aluminum "rack" found on many of the cargo trailers (such as the one in the att'd pic). Canada vendors preferred.

hi rick

you might try some of the rv centers like camping world, jc whitney. i belive they may carry some type of cargo rack. but you may have to make them fit. or possibley one of the makers of the cargo trailers to se if they will sell you one.

thanks Don... I thought of the RV places... just haven't gotten a "round toit". I did go to a shop that deals specifically with cargo racks and cargo carriers but dang... the cheapest is near $400.

ouch thats a lot of money for almost nothing. i know when i had a rv it had an aluminum tube rail around the top of the roof and was in sections.

I built a trailer a few years back. I too was looking for a roof rack, not so much for function but for looks.

Guess what!!!!

I went down to the local hardware store and bought a couple chrome towel racks from the bath department and bolted them to the top of the trailer. You can find them in different styles to match what you want.

Then I went to the local automotive supply and bought some stick-on trim molding like goes down the side of your car. Cut it into the right lengths and stuck them to the top of the trailer between the racks.

Looked good, total cost around $20.00 at the time.:dancefool:

you know... I also thought of that too... just haven't "explored" it .... glad to hear someone has done it and it worked out. The trailer had 3 nice aluminum strips that were glued on the top which are still in good shape so I'll be re-using those ... just need a "rack".

Another idea I had was using aluminum tubing and rail hardware as what is found on various boats. I was in a hardware store the other day that caters to the marine folks and came across some of the components which gave me that idea.

I'm still in the "research" process but it would be nice to find the kind of stuff originally used on these trailers. The one that was on mine got a little mangled when it was dumped.

Some of the old racks on top of cars were adjustable. Maybe just cut the rails on one of them to make what you want? Might be worth checking a salvage yard.:confused24:

Great idea... I didn't think of that one!
