somedudenamedev Posted April 19, 2010 #1 Posted April 19, 2010 ok, i have floor boards and highway boards.....just bought the 86 royal, (first full dresser) former cruiser styles....wanted to test the waters on an older bike first....found a very well kept up and beautiful one.................with the heal toe shifter, brake and boards, i find myself not being able to brake as fast as i like because of my own coordination......boards sit up high and lifting my toes to the brake is not a natural feel to me at all. they look great and r great under ur feet, just thinking of my comfort and safety. anyone else feel this way? anyway to put forward controls on or lower the boards and controls? if not.....what do i need to put stock pegs and controls back on? does anyone have some and want to throw in some cash for these boards? any info anyone has would be a huge help......
GaryZ Posted April 19, 2010 #2 Posted April 19, 2010 I had similar issues with my 1985 VR. I have long legs and the floor boards put my ankles in an uncomfortable position. I found a set of stock driver pegs. They are a lot more comfy and the shifter/rear-brake are in a better location. I left the passenger floor boards because my wife likes them. BTW: I still have the complete driver's floor boards for sale . . . $250
mike_kelly_68 Posted April 19, 2010 #3 Posted April 19, 2010 If no one here has some they will part with, try Pinwall cycle on ebay. They are probably the best source for used parts.
somedudenamedev Posted April 19, 2010 Author #4 Posted April 19, 2010 what else needs to be changed when converting it back to pegs from floorboards? if i get the pegs, do they have everything typically i need or is there something else? glad to hear the pegs were more comfortable.......its what i was hoping. the ankle angel has me very uncomfortable as well. on an upside........i now know why anyone who does any extent of traveling prefers full dressers.........no soreness or stiffness after a 120 mile stretch like my vstar 1100 and sportster gave me..........not even my old v-65 magna....love it on the highway! somedudenamedev
BOO Posted April 19, 2010 #5 Posted April 19, 2010 To change back you are going to need the pegs, shifter and probably linkage and a brake pedal. And maybe the brake linkage. I can't really remember but I did the same as you are doing several years ago. I believe thats all you will need. BOO

BOO Yes, you need the adjustable mounting brackets, brake and shift levers with linkages. You will also need shorter bolts and washers (stainless steel at Ace Hardware). Condor Posted April 20, 2010 #7 Posted April 20, 2010 does anyone have some and want to throw in some cash for these boards? any info anyone has would be a huge help...... Yup... had the same problem on the '91. Just didn't feel natural with the foot setting flat while it's directly below my butt... The Plus in that position it took a little away from the overall knee to foot distance. So off they came and I installed a clean set of MKI controls. The early MKI's peg position have some adjustment back and forth, not so the MKII's.... Actually I've done the swap on all my MKII's even if they came with pegs.
somedudenamedev Posted April 23, 2010 Author #8 Posted April 23, 2010 when lookin at it.....the peg assembly for both sides has the pegs, shifter n brake, linkage. does that bolt right to bike? or is there a mounting plate that goes on bike first? cant seem to get a straight answer on anyone on ebay........found a set assemblies but not sure on the mounting plates
