vic venture Posted April 10, 2010 #1 Posted April 10, 2010 Hey Guys! Oh and ladies! The guy could not get the money for ole Blu so I get to keep it! I've been riding and getting used to the bike but one thing still drives me nuts. Every bump I hit causes rattles from the front fairing. I have tried to tighten and secure everything but it is still there. Any insight from the pros? I found that it is much more fun to change the plugs on my gen 1 then it is on a royal touring. Whew!
Yammer Dan Posted April 10, 2010 #2 Posted April 10, 2010 Might end up having to pull it off. Not that much of a job but it takes time.
Marcarl Posted April 10, 2010 #3 Posted April 10, 2010 If you have a 'mudflap' on your front fender,,,, check it.
SilvrT Posted April 10, 2010 #4 Posted April 10, 2010 the rattle is most likely from the inner (or inside) plastic panels. They tend to wear at the mounting points and become loose. Had this problem with my '87. You'll need to take off the outer fairing to get at them.
Condor Posted April 10, 2010 #5 Posted April 10, 2010 After I added Progressive springs to the '83 the 'clunk/rattle' disappeared....
Snaggletooth Posted April 10, 2010 #6 Posted April 10, 2010 Two things I found on my '84 when I got it that were causing the rattles and bang when I hit a bump. The mounts to dash pod were loose. I replaced the grommets and backed them up with a washer. Tighted that right up. No more lil rattle. But the bigger one was still there. I found the long mounting bolts for the fairing subframe (one on each side just below and behind the headlight a bit) were backed out about a 1/4 inch. I tightened up all the subframe bolts and the rattle was gone. PO was a space case I guess.
Bill W. Posted April 11, 2010 #7 Posted April 11, 2010 When I pulled all the plastic off my Venture, the bracket holding the radio/cassette amplifier was broken in one spot. It rattled about alot!!!
timgray Posted April 12, 2010 #8 Posted April 12, 2010 The rivet on my front fender mudflap pulled through and was causing my rattle rattle. I drilled out the other two rivets and removed the flap.... that eliminated it. when I repainted, I repaired the fender and reattached the fender with plastic rivits so they wont rub and pull through. (metal on plastic = hole in plastic.)
vic venture Posted April 14, 2010 Author #9 Posted April 14, 2010 Yep, I'm finding several loose and stripped screws in the panels
massey130 Posted April 14, 2010 #10 Posted April 14, 2010 keep us informed of what you find and what you did to fix the problem. also, if possible, take some pics and post 'em.
