Picked the bike up at dealer after getting a new tire. Dead battery so we jumped it at the dealer and she ran fine. Stopped at the store, (15 mile ride) would not start again but would jump start. Now at home, I charged the battery, have full lights and all but when I try to start, nothing, not even when jumping from a good battery. I have made sure the kill switch is in run but no go. I don't hear the fuel pump run either. Battery is 6 years old but I'm thinking it should at least jump start if there is any juice left. It doesn't appear to be the same symptoms as the ignition switch, which from what I read leaves just the radio operable, no lights or anything else. I will be getting a fresh battery but really I would think it should at least jump start. I leave this to the gurus out there!

Put it on a trickle charge all night, then take it to a parts house and let them pull a load on it, like Ruffy said it is toast, but this will clear your mind and the test are free...

When you say 'nothing' - do you mean that it doesn't even crank? Or does it crank but only trurn over and not start.

Is this your RSV or the 90 VR?

Some things that come to mind are, as Ruffy mentioned (and you) is the battery. If it got run completely dead at the shop (if someone left it on ACC overnight or something - they probably had no idea) then it is possible that your battery is pooched. However, it is odd that when jumping it (presuming you have your battery connected to the electrical system with the jumper cables connected to the battery) you get nothing.

If the battery is completely dead and you have cables on it from a functional battery - it should at least crank.

If you are not cranking, things to check would be the engine cut-off switch (kill switch), the side-stand/neutral interlock safety as either of those would prevent the bike from cranking at all. These can be done with the bike jumped.

A quick way to check the neutral/side-stand safety switch is to stand the bike up, fold the side-stand up, pull the clutch in and push the starter button and see what happens.

Just a few thoughts on the topic here. I'm sure others can jump in with more useful information, but maybe this can help get you started at least.

A little more info can go a long way in helping you diagnose the problem.

It's my 2004 RSV. It has no crank at all, as if the kill switch were on. The lights do go off when I push the starter but nothing else, so that part of the circuit seems OK. I will check the side stand before I go to work today, good idea. I had the battery on the trickle charger and it showed as fully charged. I have to work 16 hours today so I won't be able to respond to anyone. Thanks for the ideas so far:thumbsup2:

WooHoo. Just heading out to work, tried to start one more time. Fiddled with the sidestand, and she fired right up! Thanks for the help and ideas :dancefool:. My brain was dead yesterday and I never even thought of that. :thumbsup2:

Glad it was something simple! :thumbsup2::thumbsup2:

I think that switch is one of those things that can be cleaned or replaced... but on mine, when it acts up I just lift the stand and pull the clutch - it seems easier than replacing the switch.

Allan,

Replace the battery dude! Cheap insurance for down the road, you got your monies worth out of the original :stickpoke:

Well... as long as you've got the 'refrigeration' option installed and operational. Since no one likes droopy cheesecake.

As you can see in my picture below I added the glue on vent looking things to my bags.

I have been asked if that really helped keep my bags cool and I told them that I never had

a problem with the beer getting warm in my bags. :whistling: (here's your sign)

Guess it would work for cheesecake as well.
