I was wondering the same thing for mine. I switched out the cassette and bought the cable from John to use my MP3 player and now you really notice the 20 year old speakers.

Any good 4" speaker, either 3 way or 2 way will work, just check ohms required by the speaker to match the ohms output of your radio. Power requirements are not that high, so a 50 watt speaker will probably do the trick.

Also wondering if anyone has added rear speakers to their first gen? If so how did you mount them and will the stock power amp support both sets of speakers? Just a little curious as I want to open up my mufflers a bit and dont want to drowned out the stereo.

i have my vol. nob set at 1/2 at 65 mph and my wive tells me to turn it down , my pipes are completely hollow :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:. as soon as i installed the new speakers , i had to turn down the vol. i did not believe how bad my stock ones where and they looked good . as for the rear speakers i was thinking about sneaking up on a 2G and borrowing thier trunk :rotfl::rasberry::cool10:

Yeah I wasnt sure how to mount them to the rear trunk and also if i would have to get amplifeid speakers or if I could just tap into the left and right speaker wire to power the rear speakers.
