Guest MDuffy Posted April 6, 2010 #1 Posted April 6, 2010 Hello All, My new purchase which is a 2006 Royal Star Deluxe makes a whining noise through all gears. Not while I am shifting. After I am in any gear. Is this normal or should I have it checked out? I have 60 days from 4/3/10. Thanks Moe:Venture:
jemorrisonjr Posted April 6, 2010 #2 Posted April 6, 2010 Got the same bike with the same "Whine"... I just got loader pipes............
SilvrT Posted April 6, 2010 #3 Posted April 6, 2010 Hello All, My new purchase which is a 2006 Royal Star Deluxe makes a whining noise through all gears. Not while I am shifting. After I am in any gear. Is this normal or should I have it checked out? I have 60 days from 4/3/10. Thanks Moe Moe... it's probably the clutch basket issue that many of these have. Do a search for either clutch basket or I basket. Basically those with the "whine" have the basket replaced with an I Basket .... either that or ride solo.....
RandyR Posted April 6, 2010 #4 Posted April 6, 2010 many of them have a whine, some more-so than others. It bothered me at first, but I have since compared the noise it makes to other similar sized motorcycles, and they all make noises of some kind or another. So I just ignore it. The windshield seems to refect the noise at the rider and make it worse than it really is.
LilBeaver Posted April 6, 2010 #5 Posted April 6, 2010 Also: You say you have 60 days from 3/Apr/10 - - you may want to contact a Yamaha dealer with your VIN number; if it was, in fact, a dealer that told you that then I'd contact a DIFFERENT one. The RSTD and RSV both come with a 5 year transferable warranty (unlimited mileage) effective the day that the bike rolls off the lot for the first time. Many members in here have gotten their clutch baskets swapped under the warranty (some had no issues with their dealer, and some took a lot of persuasion). Many of our members have found that some dealerships don't really know a whole lot about these bikes (most likely due to the lack of sales volume on them). As SilverT mentioned, there is A LOT of information on that in here, it just takes a little searching. By the way, welcome to the site.
SilvrT Posted April 6, 2010 #6 Posted April 6, 2010 I have 60 days from 4/3/10. Thanks Moe How do you figure 60 days? The warranty should be good until sometime in 2011. ???
jfoster Posted April 7, 2010 #7 Posted April 7, 2010 On my 06 I've found that the thicker oil makes it worse, 20w-50. Currently using Rotella's synthetic 5w-30 (NON-energy conserving). Alot use Amsoil and Mobile 1.
massey130 Posted April 7, 2010 #8 Posted April 7, 2010 welcome to the site! you will find lots of info, as others have said. we hope you hang around. there is a search function, and as said, to search on the i basket. there is a lot of reading to do on the whine. that way you won't have to wait for others to chime in. once you have read up, you can come back with more wisdom and better questions. Just for the sake of repeating again, the search button is in the top menu, lower bar, right side. don't be afraid to ask. I know i have bent everyone's eyes crossed with my shifting problem.
Guest MDuffy Posted April 9, 2010 #9 Posted April 9, 2010 I bought the bike at M.O.M.S South in Foxboro, MA. I have not dealt with them befor this but they came highly recommended. So here we go! I will keep you all posted! Thanks again, I really love my bike! Moe check out: www.newenglandthunder.com
Squidley Posted April 9, 2010 #10 Posted April 9, 2010 Duff, I dont know how familiar you are with this V4 thats in the Yamaha. They inherently have a whistle sound that is just how the engine sounds. There is also an issue with the latter Royal Stars with clutch baskets that indeed make noise. I just wanted you to be aware that under normal circumstances the engine is not whisper quiet. Welcome to the forum and hope you stick around
Obber Posted April 9, 2010 #11 Posted April 9, 2010 The wife hasn't rode with me since last fall. That's about the time when the whine went away.:rotfl: Just kidding. :Avatars_Gee_George: :Avatars_Gee_George: Boy, I'm in trouble now!
wes0778 Posted April 9, 2010 #12 Posted April 9, 2010 I got the whine thingy cured by turning off my hearing aids...:stirthepot:
Yamaman Posted April 9, 2010 #13 Posted April 9, 2010 How do you figure 60 days? The warranty should be good until sometime in 2011. ??? I don't think he's talking about the warranty. I think what he's saying is that the dealer he bought it from gave him a 60 day return. If so, then that's very generous on a used bike.
