elmicko Posted April 5, 2010 #1 Posted April 5, 2010 Happened for the first time today. Went out for a ride with almost a full tank of gas, look down and the warning light is on and it's showing empty. I eased it for another few miles to the next station with my butt sucking a hickey on the seat because I didn't know if the gage went out or if I had a leak and was actually out of gas. Filled up and it only held about 1 1/2 gallons, rode about another 150 miles and the gage would go from showing completely full to bone dry empty and back again. Filled up a few miles from home and I had only ran out another 1/2 tank or so. Where do I start to fix this blasted thing???
elmicko Posted April 5, 2010 Author #2 Posted April 5, 2010 Did I mention that this really ticks me off???
FROG MAN Posted April 5, 2010 #3 Posted April 5, 2010 Yep had to fix mine. Remove guage from tank and clean the rust out of it. You may have to slightly bend the wiper arm to make good tension contact. Works good on my 84 now.Easy check with ohm meter just watch value change when float moves up or down.
chocking Posted April 5, 2010 #4 Posted April 5, 2010 I had this same thing and was worried that I might have to pull the fuel sending unigt and mess with the fumes etc....A couple guys on here said to check the connections under the seat first..Pulled the seat, cleaned the connections with a bit steel wool and sprayed the rest down with electrical cleaner and WALLA.. works perfect...A first place to start.. Good luck Clay
