I have been using Ride-On for several years now and have been happy with the product. Now I have some doubts. Last year when I changed my tires the shop had complained at how bad the Ride-On had gunked up the rims inside and he had a heck of a time trying to clean up the area. This time I had the shop pull the tires off and I brought the rims home to clean up myself prior to having the new tires installed. I couldnt believe the mess that was in there. Most of the Ride-on was caked on and thick. I had to use Goo Gone and a razor to scrape away the mess. Then used a wire detail brush and 150 grit sandpaper to finish off the inside of the rims. Most of the sealer was built up around the area that the tire seats to the rim (bead area). It worked its way up between the bead and the rim too. Some have said that it just wipes away.....not in this case. I spent several hours cleaning those rims and I still have a bit more to go on the front rim.

This is not a condemnation of the product as it works well, but rather a warning to those who use it that when you change tires, clean up the mess inside at each tire change, not wait until several changes to do so.

It just might save you some valuable riding time.

Wonder what Ride-On would respond if you sent them pictures or at least your testimony.

I'd like to use the product myself but not if it can cause damage, make me have to work  , or cause a failure when it is suppose to help prevent them.

(Inside joke here:)

RuffRider Im sure glad to see your really taking care of my wheels...

I mean, since I am the benificiary of your bike now.

You clean them rims up real good now for me OK..??...:rasberry:

and make sure you put on some really nice new tires for me too.:rotf:

Seriously now... Did you possibly put to much Ride-on in the tire to where it was high enough on the inside to be around the rim "seat" area?

I would think that the Ride-on material itself would stay much more "plyable" per say, down in your area (hot Florida), than it would say up in Michigan or Canada (cooler/ colder areas).

When I removed my tires (with ride on in them) there was aproximately a two inch wide section that went completely around the tire tread and none of it touched the rim seating area. The Ride on material was not real soft, to where it "ran" as I moved the tire. It was plyable to where I was able to push or move the material around a little with my finger.

It was not runny ..like maple syrup...but more like chilled butter.

You could write to (email) Ride on, and state your dissatisfaction of results in a kind way and see what they say.

Im interested in thier reply myself.

If I remember correctly, they offer a discount to the VR members and you can mention in your contact letter to them that you are a VR member and that you have posted your concerns on th esite and are awaiting thier reply.

Just remember:

Sorry I didnt take any pictures. I finally got the rims cleaned up tonight and the new Avons (Avons good for you ECK?? LOL) will be mounted tomorrow. Im not sure why they built up the way they did but it happened. And it was an even distribution, mostly along the outer edges of the wheels. Ill send Ride-On an email or call them when I get the chance. Like I said, the product works well. Maybe the Florida heat had an effect on it. I rode it when the temps were pushing 100 and im sure those tires were real hot. Maybe it was a result of leaving it in the rims for several tire changes. I dont know. But I am adding more (1 bottle per wheel, as per mfg specs) and ill check it out next time I replace these new tires.
