Gamecock Posted April 1, 2010 #1 Posted April 1, 2010 Made it home from the hospital last night (wife is typing for me). Still in a considerable amount of pain, but up and about on my feet. I have already started the process of looking for a new bike (with airbags!!, wife added that part) What can I say? I am a trooper! Just remember, to ALWAYS wear your helmet, and remind your friends to do the same. Here are a couple of shots of the bike. http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs494.snc3/26972_1362195648803_1048940196_31078560_6669339_n.jpg http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs514.snc3/26972_1362195688804_1048940196_31078561_5535339_n.jpg http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs494.ash1/26972_1362196048813_1048940196_31078568_5826999_n.jpg Ben
Guest scarylarry Posted April 1, 2010 #2 Posted April 1, 2010 To many accidents lately, just thankful you are ok and still here.. Phoenix then a hit and run in West palm beach and 2 teenagers where my daughter lives.. Instead of airbags we should be installing machine guns.....LOL
Skid Posted April 1, 2010 #3 Posted April 1, 2010 Bike doesn't look good, but glad you're still with us...
Lone Eagle Posted April 1, 2010 #4 Posted April 1, 2010 Glad to see you are OK, Gamecock - thoughts for a speedy recovery moving forward for you sent.
CMIKE Posted April 1, 2010 #5 Posted April 1, 2010 Man...You were L U C K Y the Lord was not too busy with something elses to put his hands on you. Glad you are still around. You need to go pay the preacher extra this Sunday, cause somebody with a greater power was surely looking out for you. I very much hope for a speedy recovery so you can get back out there before the summer is over. I am so sorry about your bike. There is no doubt it is toast...I hope you find a good one to replace it. Look for the Midnight ones...for they are the fastest and always the prettiest bikes around.
bongobobny Posted April 1, 2010 #6 Posted April 1, 2010 I was almost expecting to see even worse than it is, but sure is messed up!! Glad you arre in good spirits, much less just plain alive and reasonably well!
Zfrebird4 Posted April 1, 2010 #7 Posted April 1, 2010 ... and obviously, the Good Lord was with you on that ride; (He {or she} always has the time to look out for use 'Children.' Might consider buying the bike back (cheap I hope) for parts .... if you plan to replace with the same for a long, long time. Nah, ... start new; perhaps that is a better idea. As soon as you see the one you want your pains will be gone, but not the orders from your partner or the docs. Heal well, fast, and be safe. Continued prayers for all. JackZ
1BigDog Posted April 1, 2010 #8 Posted April 1, 2010 Sure glad you walked away from that one so to speak.
Yammer Dan Posted April 1, 2010 #9 Posted April 1, 2010 Hurts to look at that one. I still have one covered I look at once in a while.
Gambler Posted April 1, 2010 #10 Posted April 1, 2010 Glad your OK, Bike can always be replaced, you cant, Heal quick my friend Gambler:15_8_211[1]:
autopilot Posted April 1, 2010 #11 Posted April 1, 2010 I still can't get over that.......I mean the bike is toast, obviously, BUT, considering a closing impact speed approching 110, the bike doesn't look too bad and you gettting away as cleanly as you did.....is beyond logical expectations!.............I kid you not, every time I think about it I giggle like a little schoolgirl. God bless!
a1bummer Posted April 1, 2010 #12 Posted April 1, 2010 So was that a head on collision? Cage over on your side of the road? EDIT: Okay, never mind. I read your previous post now. All I can say is... WOW!
Zfrebird4 Posted April 1, 2010 #13 Posted April 1, 2010 Nice of your wife to type for you, and I'll bet she's doing a lot more than that for you. When you have healed up enough, please detail any info on the accident that may help make all of us better drivers. Saddly, it looks like a head on collision. Most important though ... all of you in your family and friends involved: Just keep healing to the next ride. Continued prayers for healing and of rejoicing for the healing that is now taking place. JackZ aka DePreach
Bigfoot Posted April 1, 2010 #14 Posted April 1, 2010 Ouch. Hurts to even look at. Ben. Mine is not being used due to my new job. May have to let you use it for a while to keep it running.
Riderduke Posted April 1, 2010 #15 Posted April 1, 2010 Ben, I'm glad Your out of the hospital. Thanks for posting the pictures of the accident. If Nothing else it lets all of us know that there is real danger and to remain vigilant. I guess i'm not gonna be coming up to you house one night to steal the Chrome Forks anymore.:whistling:
Gamecock Posted April 1, 2010 Author #16 Posted April 1, 2010 Duke, if I could get the parts for you, you know I would but for some reason I don't think they can be taken off. Anybody got a nice midnight for sale??? Scribed by mom! And I thank you for your well wishes and especially prayers. Ben was just the copilot on this day. The size of his bike and his "attire" were both a huge plus in this accident but we know that God was the one in control. To see the actual impact when it happened, (Ben's dad and I were the third of four bikes on this ride) the "explosion" of bike and car parts and Ben going up in the air was the scariest thing I have ever witnessed. Once I determined I could get up and that my husband's only issue was his ankle, I couldn't get to Ben fast enough. Ben, lying face down on the pavement with arms looking like a contortionist (sp?) had these first words to say "Is everyone okay? Where's dad? Is he okay? Where's Daniel? Is he okay? Where's Michael?" Worried about everyone else. That's my boy! He says he remembers the impact but doesn't remember the landing. I say thank you God for that! Ben thinks a lot of each of you and is anxious to stay in touch, he is just not able to at this time. We will try to keep you updated though!
CaptainJoe Posted April 1, 2010 #17 Posted April 1, 2010 If I were you, I'd start playing the Lottery my friend! Makes you wonder though if an air bag would have protected you more. Honda has them available on their top of the line goldwings. Perhaps Yamaha should follow suit? May you have a speedy recovery.
Sleeperhawk Posted April 1, 2010 #18 Posted April 1, 2010 (edited) Here are a few links to some bikes I found this morning: http://www.searchtempest.com/results.php?ebover=1&page=0&Region=na&citySelect=zip&catname=motorcycles%2Fscooters&maxDist=250&zip=29209&showeb=1&category=8&subcat1=ccc&subcat2=eee&subcat3=ggg&subcat4=hhh&subcat5=jjj&subcat6=ppp&subcat7=res&subcat8=mcy&subcat9=bbb&addThree3=&minAsk4=min&maxAsk4=max&bedrooms=&minAsk6=min&maxAsk6=max&minAsk8=min&maxAsk8=max&search_string=venture&keytype=all&search_string_neg= The in North Carolina is an 05 Midnight Also a 04 White in Brunswick, GA on the list, but he wants a little to much moola. Blue Giant Posted April 2, 2010 #24 Posted April 2, 2010 Ben, You don't need me to tell you how lucky you are to be still alive. Do you think the Venture or if you were riding any full dressed touring bike for that matter had an impact (no pun intended) on your survival or at least lessened somewhat the extent of your injuries? Heal fast! Paul
Mike G in SC Posted April 2, 2010 #25 Posted April 2, 2010 Ben (Gamecock), Good to see you are up and about. If you get a chance, please post on the Star Touring Cruiser Cafe. There is already a link on you with a lot of well wishes. http://www.startouring.org/forum/default.aspx?f=5&m=105999 Glad to see there is another bike in your future. Mike G in SC
