Venturous Randy Posted March 31, 2010 #1 Posted March 31, 2010 It was in the lacal paper that a contract has been released for 2 million dollars to cleanup the rock slide on 129, The Dragon. There is also a stipulation of a $6,500 bonus per day for each day finished earlier than July 31, or a penality of $6,500 for each day going over July, 31. RandyA

RandyA That is the way a Govt. contract rolls most of the time, like you, I don 't feel a bonus is warranted but they write it in there.
Yammer Dan Posted March 31, 2010 #4 Posted March 31, 2010 Wolf Pen still open. Lot of other great rides. Got a few at home in West by God.
ffjoe Posted March 31, 2010 #5 Posted March 31, 2010 I took a ride to Front Royal through Shenandoah National Park and stopped for the night at a hotel where us route 250 intersects by interstate 64. My plan was to continue on down the Blue Ridge Parkway but the weather called for rain that way for next 2 days so I decided to head back towards Pittsburgh. I recognized us250 to be the same road that is by my favorite lake in west virginia and away I went. What a great twisty turny road through the mountains with great scenery and good road. Chatted with some other bikers at a historic fort on top of a mountain pass who told me if I liked 250 then I'd love rt 33. They made a loop of both roads. Lots of things to do and see in the area also. I'm looking forward to a trip summer to check it out. Any Mountaineers familiar?

So, if they have people working overtime to finish early, they should eat the cost? Or not pay their people? Or rent extra equipment to finish promptly? Or conversely, they should take as long as needed to make money? US-59 here is a major freeway. When I first moved to town, the state was upgrading it... or wanted to. The contractor treated the project like something he could use to keep his people busy during slack periods. The project extended into years, and you could drive by and not see anyone working at all. The contractor made more money at the public's expense. I am thankful TxDOT implemented bonuses and penalties. They shaved months off several major projects since then. That saved a crap ton of people time and aggravation. That helped businesses to survive. I'm willing to bet that the businesses that are starving around there feel the same way. They make money during tourist season, and if the attraction remains closed, more family businesses are at risk. Dave

Dave I agree with fines if the completion date is off, but a bonus to finsh on time or head of schedule I don't agree with. You bid a job you complete the job per the contract...

Hey Rooster, you are going to have to quit telling people about the Rooster Tail. That is a really great ride and if you keep going it will be bumper to bumper bikes, if a bike had a bumper. RandyA
