ridefree40 Posted October 11, 2007 #1 Posted October 11, 2007 We are planning a vacation next year from pennsylvaina down the blueridge and then in to florida. WE are in search of places to see things to do and so on. Also looking for places or areas to camp along the route. Other than campgrounds. We would greatly appriciate any info you guys have to offer. Thanks:322:
RedRider Posted October 11, 2007 #2 Posted October 11, 2007 Ride around the Smokey Mountains, Tail of the Dragon, etc. I suggest staying one night at Iron Horse Lodge (Google it). It is a great place to stay. You could also stay in the Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park. However, the ammenities are better at the Iron Horse Lodge. These are all near the end of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Have a great trip. RR
Guest BluesLover Posted October 11, 2007 #3 Posted October 11, 2007 If you wind up near Luray, WV, I highly recommend the Hillside Motel. Look up Sam and tell him some crazy Canucks sent you ... http://www.pearlslove.com/webs/hillside/ Mountain Lake, in Pembroke VA is also nice - not only is it the location of the movie "Dirty Dancing", but the ride up to it is very, very nice. http://www.mtnlakehotel.com/ Mount Airy, NC is a neat spot too - that's the town where Andy Griffith grew up and what his show was based upon. If you do go, make sure to get a shave from the "real" Floyd. http://www.mountairy.org/ Maggie Valley (and the Wheels Through Time museum), Cherokee, Pigeon Forge ... all nice spots to visit too. Otherwise ... be ready for a beautiful (but rather slow - speed limits are 35 to 45 at best and are enforced) ride. Cheers,
Johnh Posted October 11, 2007 #4 Posted October 11, 2007 If you go down the Dragon, you might want to stay at the Deals Gap Resort. $69.00 a night for an apartment right at the Tail of the dragon.

I can tell you some cheap, less than $20 a night campground places that are nice and have hot showers that are within a short distance of the parkway. Are you looking at camping the entire trip? markellis Posted October 12, 2007 #6 Posted October 12, 2007 ..I can give without typing for hours on all to see and do, on and off the BRP is, whatever you decide, decide it REAL quick and make reservations NOW. Some of the places on the BRP and right off of it are booked a year ahead of time. Enjoy!
