jonesy Posted March 27, 2010 #1 Posted March 27, 2010 Got a cdrw/dvd burner, reads dvds, but not cds of any type, put new one in but same thing. in a dell E310 tower, has roxio for burning program, shows up in my computer, set as a master or slave or cs but no differnce same thing will not read or reconizence a cd. Tried windows burning program and roxio program to burn something, no luck. Put a dvd in no problem , got me stumpped, any ideas.
Sheradan Posted March 27, 2010 #2 Posted March 27, 2010 I would check online with the drive maker and download the latest drivers.
SilvrT Posted March 27, 2010 #3 Posted March 27, 2010 Certain models of DVD burners have this problem. I would return it to the store where you bought it and get a different brand.
Guest human4m Posted March 27, 2010 #4 Posted March 27, 2010 I've also seen where Roxio likes to 'Take Ownership' of drives. I hate any kind of proprietary software like that. They can hold your drive hostage.
friesman Posted March 27, 2010 #5 Posted March 27, 2010 Its been a while since Ive dealt with this, but I think I remember Roxio asking something on install about configuration on reading cd/s/dvd s.., If youve changed the cd/dvd already youre pretty much left with a software issue, and I would suspect Roxio, i dont like the way that software runs, but that just goes back to issues I had a few years ago with their stuff. I would uninstall Roxio, reboot and see what happens and then try a reinstall and carefully read their install popups. Brian
GigaWhiskey Posted March 27, 2010 #6 Posted March 27, 2010 I forget what is is called but there is like a rights add-on that has some selections. Also, are you sure you used a CD-R that has not been written to yet? A CD-RW will require it to be formatted first. At least it used to be that way. CD-R's come formatted and CD-RWs do not. Like I said before, at least it used to be that way.
