SilvrT Posted March 26, 2010 #2 Posted March 26, 2010 installed ......and picked up bike today.....definitely gone..... WOOOOOOOHHOOOOOOOOOO!!! :thumbsup2: You might want to consider adding a bit of MotorKote to your oil just for that added "wear-in" of the gearset.
gbphotog Posted March 26, 2010 #3 Posted March 26, 2010 Great news! Hope I can say the same soon. Mine goes in next week.
SpaceMan Posted March 27, 2010 #4 Posted March 27, 2010 Glad to hear it! I hope I can say the same. Mine is going in April 12th. I already checked the clutch basket and it is definitely the "I" version.
Hummingbird Posted March 27, 2010 #6 Posted March 27, 2010 WOOOOOOOHHOOOOOOOOOO!!! :thumbsup2: You might want to consider adding a bit of MotorKote to your oil just for that added "wear-in" of the gearset. I put a small dose of motor kote in last fall. MISTAKE !! The wine is louder now than ever. I don't know whether it was the amziol or the motor kote but they are BOTH going before I start riding this year, back to Mobile 1 and no additives
Cougar Posted March 27, 2010 #7 Posted March 27, 2010 This is so strange how all this is so much different in each bike, I am the opposite of Adventure 1943, If I use Mobile mine gets louder and the MotorKote and the Amzoil I use makes it better, I just can not figure why this happing. I also am going to try next week , installing a 3rd (I) Basket myself. Just to see if there as been any changes at all in the gear cut after 5 years. If it doesn't work it The basket will be for sale. my own experiment. I will also be measuring my old (I) against the new one. So far I have used (D) (E) (F) (G) (I) (I) in my bike. Jeff
SilvrT Posted March 27, 2010 #8 Posted March 27, 2010 I put a small dose of motor kote in last fall. MISTAKE !! The wine is louder now than ever. I don't know whether it was the amziol or the motor kote but they are BOTH going before I start riding this year, back to Mobile 1 and no additives Lots of folks swear by Amsoil. I tried it last year (before the I basket when I had the whine) ... made the whole engine sound noisier...not sure if the whine was worse or not. I'm now using Rotella T 15w40. The engine is the quietest that it's ever been and I'm quite happy with it now... to me it sound like it should sound.
slick97spirit Posted March 30, 2010 #9 Posted March 30, 2010 Has anyone used the Rotella T synthetic? I saw both in Wally world today, but didn't know if the Rotella synthetic was ok with a wet clutch
Celt Posted March 30, 2010 #10 Posted March 30, 2010 been using the rotella t syn(blue jug) in my Triumph for years, no probs with wet clutch . will be doing an oil change in the rsv this weekend with the rotella t.
jfoster Posted March 30, 2010 #11 Posted March 30, 2010 I switched from regular rotella to the sythetic and everything seems very happy. For me the whine has decreased, maybe to the thinner or lighter weight oil. Mine screams with a heavey 20w-50.
jmmckenz Posted March 30, 2010 #12 Posted March 30, 2010 Anyone know offhand what the I basket cost if purchased, not under warranty.
Cougar Posted March 30, 2010 #13 Posted March 30, 2010 $289.86 with shipping and a new gasket. partshark.com
Cougar Posted April 2, 2010 #15 Posted April 2, 2010 You do not know until you pull it out. I do not have any idea if they install the (I) basket at the factory or not. the markings are on the back of the basket. Jeff
SilvrT Posted April 2, 2010 #16 Posted April 2, 2010 here's a pic of a "G" basket ...
Cougar Posted April 2, 2010 #17 Posted April 2, 2010 TDbiker, look at the TOP of SilvrT's Picture and you will notice the (G) scribed into the basket.
TDbiker Posted April 8, 2010 #18 Posted April 8, 2010 Thanks, I see the "G" as indicated. I was hoping to be able to tell which basket I have without teardown but I guess that isn't possible.
