Chaharly Posted March 26, 2010 #1 Posted March 26, 2010 Sound like a good(but expensive idea). I want to take all the plastic off my 85, and take it so it can get molded and get a carbon fiber fairing for it. That'd be cool, but its one of those dreams that will never come true.

Flyinfool Posted January 28, 2011 #3 Posted January 28, 2011 The part in the video is the easy part. Actually making the part. It is the making of the mold the requires the most talent and hard work. I have made some parts for use on model aircraft, it is not a fun job, but some times it is the only way to get what you need/want. I have another project that I am just working up the ambition to start where I will be making a custom fuel tank to fit into a jet. It will be made from kevlar cloth, the process is the same wether you use carbon, glass, kevlar, or any other cloth.
Condor Posted January 28, 2011 #4 Posted January 28, 2011 Yep, producing a good mold is the hard part. That's where all your imperfections are going to show up. Try it on a 40' boat mold sometime..... Not fun...
Flyinfool Posted January 28, 2011 #5 Posted January 28, 2011 NO THANKS I have enough problems with a foot long part. But then I would think that you can get away with a few minor oppies on the bottom of a boat. For the tank that I need to make I will cheat and use the lost foam method, it don't need to be pretty.
