Chaharly Posted March 24, 2010 #1 Posted March 24, 2010 My dad just bought a 1500. Its an 88 and silver, and me, being the persnickity young tyke wanted to take it out for a ride. Well, its less torquey than my 1200 VR. It does ride smoother though, but mine takes bumbs better What's your take?
Marcarl Posted March 24, 2010 #2 Posted March 24, 2010 I have a friend that has one, I think it's an 87????, smooth, quiet, but not the same bike as the first gen. Too much plastic to take off for service, sits the same as former Wings, widshield is too large, not very nimble, poor electronics, but has some good features. He has over 300,000 km on it and it's still running strong, even with his style of maintainence, which is a little as needed.
SilvrT Posted March 24, 2010 #3 Posted March 24, 2010 but mine takes bumbs better Bumbs (as in butt) or bumPs ???
LilBeaver Posted March 25, 2010 #4 Posted March 25, 2010 I have yet to ride a first gen, but I have ridden a number of goldwings. (Haven't made it onto a GL1800 yet though - 2002 & newer). But they are smooth, quiet, amazingly easy to drive and maneuver. Other than the seating position (it kills my knees) I have no complaints about them at all.
distancerider Posted March 25, 2010 #5 Posted March 25, 2010 I've got an 88 1500, great bike. I have my 2006 venure but I haven't brought myself to get rid of the wing. I have ridden it to Canada once and Key West 7 times and would ride it anywhere tomorow wihtout a second thought. I've done all the work on it myself and added a few things. He should love it, if I can ever answer anything let me know.
1 Canuck Posted March 25, 2010 #6 Posted March 25, 2010 My 93 G.W was ok. It wasn't as comfortable as my 06 Venture. It was low maintenance, I found it easy to work on, but the stock seat and leg position wasn't good for me on long trips. Best part was I rode it for a year and then sold it for 2K more than I bought it for.
buddy Posted March 26, 2010 #7 Posted March 26, 2010 I had the 88 GL1500 model. nice bike at times I wish I kept it.. it was payed off LOL. Anyway main reason I sold it was due to the knee's, the 88 model dint have much leg room and the way the crash bars are set up on the 88 model the foot pegs put my legs way apart I mean way apart. But it was very smooth riding bike very easy to handle and the GL1500 motor was bullet proof too. Really Loved that motor. GL1500 is a slower bike but it has a smoother ride, more load capacity and more luggage room than the GL1800. he will have many of miles of enjoyment on that GL1500......
