dunvilsteev Posted March 20, 2010 #1 Posted March 20, 2010 I bought a quick release for my helmet. This is the one I bought: http://www.ironhorsehelmets.com/quickrelease.htm Okay, so how the %^#* does the black end attach to the loop with the two D hooks?
Owen Posted March 20, 2010 #2 Posted March 20, 2010 The nylon strap goes through the black plastic piece above the D links. The snap end of the strap goes through the end of the red one.
Condor Posted March 20, 2010 #4 Posted March 20, 2010 Those come standard on Nolan's. I'll never go back to double D's...
FutureVentures Posted March 20, 2010 #5 Posted March 20, 2010 Those come standard on Nolan's. I'll never go back to double D's... R u kidding me? I'd love to get my hands on a pair of double D's! Awww come on, someone had to say it.
Squeeze Posted March 20, 2010 #6 Posted March 20, 2010 In general, those Quick Release Systems are not bad, but everyone gotta keep in Mind that they are prone to loosen over Time. So, everyone using Helmets with those or even installing Aftermarket Solutions should make it Habit to adjust the Strap regularly. Once a Month doesn't cut it. If you ride daily and take the Helmet on/off multiple Times each Day, adjust the Strap every three Days or so. Ypur Helmet won't help you much in Case if you allow him to misplace or even launch from Head on first Impact.
bongobobny Posted March 20, 2010 #7 Posted March 20, 2010 Those are sooo much better than those stupid double metal prong ones!!
dunvilsteev Posted March 20, 2010 Author #8 Posted March 20, 2010 The nylon strap goes through the black plastic piece above the D links. . Easier said than done .... I'll try it again tomorrow. Hopefully, the throbbing fingertips will ebb by then ......... ow I was hoping there would be some magic solution. Ha figures! Man, that is one tough little dohickie, hard to weave the strap.
starkruzen Posted March 20, 2010 #9 Posted March 20, 2010 Waring>>>warning these are not dot approved devices. They could come unstapped in an crash:255:
bongobobny Posted March 21, 2010 #10 Posted March 21, 2010 DOT only applies to USA, not to Canada. Yes it is a concern but in case of an accident, there are no guarantees on anything...
Cougar Posted March 21, 2010 #11 Posted March 21, 2010 Just ordered a pair to try them out. thanks for the tip. wonder if the t-shirt is DOT
KarlS Posted March 21, 2010 #12 Posted March 21, 2010 I have been using the ECHO Quick Release for years and they are supposed to exceed the DOT requirements. I have never had any problem with them. And they are made in the USA. http://www.echoproducts.com/
BOO Posted March 21, 2010 #13 Posted March 21, 2010 Just ordered a pair to try them out. thanks for the tip. wonder if the t-shirt is DOT Only the Hanes. BOO
Freebird Posted March 21, 2010 #14 Posted March 21, 2010 As stated already, the Nolan helmets come with the quick release buckles. We really like ours. I don't know if they are exactly the same as these or not but the Nolans are DOT certified and I don't know that they could be if the buckles were not.
Chuckles Posted March 21, 2010 #15 Posted March 21, 2010 I have also been using the Echo QR on my helmets. Never had a problem with them. Does take a little bit to get used to the way they work.
aharbi Posted March 21, 2010 #16 Posted March 21, 2010 I took them off my helmets, they bothered my neck, uncomfortable.
RoadKill Posted March 22, 2010 #17 Posted March 22, 2010 I have similar ones on all our helmets. Much easier on my arthritic hands and easy to do with gloves. Also much better than the other style out there where you squeeze the sides to release. I had one of those get jammed and couldn't get the helmet off. Thought I was going to have to cut it. Thank goodness I didn't have to ruin the helmet. Finally after fighting it for a half hour got it off. Promptly removed it and circular filed it. I pick up two or three each year at Niehause Open house or any dealer I happen to find them at. You will love them.
SilvrT Posted March 22, 2010 #18 Posted March 22, 2010 This is probably not the safest thing to do but has worked for me for many, many years and several helmets ... I sew velcro into the chin strap .... then I just feed the strap thru the D ring once and hook the strap together with the velcro. Simple, quick, and easy.
LilBeaver Posted March 22, 2010 #19 Posted March 22, 2010 This is probably not the safest thing to do but has worked for me for many, many years and several helmets ... I sew velcro into the chin strap .... then I just feed the strap thru the D ring once and hook the strap together with the velcro. Simple, quick, and easy. I would think that this would probably be okay for a first impact (presuming the velcro holds pretty well), but may loosen up on repeated blows to the 'ol melon. I guess I have never minded the two loops, but maybe as I get older I'll change my mind.
