Is there a fuse for the CB?

The reason I ask is because my CB light will not come on. I have had this bike for 3 yrs. and the CB has never worked. In the past the light has always come on but I never could get past the the "CB-err". It never bothered me because I never used it. Now it does bother me. I just did the Marshall Mod and the dang thing will not even come on. I found in the manual there is an "audio" fuse but the radio works so it can't be that fuse. Any ideas?

From reading prior threads regarding the CB-err message, it seems that some were solved by splitting the fairing and unplugging each of the audio system connectors, filling them with dielectric grease, and reconnecting.

If memory is correct, if the above procedure does not help, then either the controller itself or the cb radio could be faulty.

There are also two din connectors under the passenger seat. Is it possible that the PO removed the cb? It is located under the trunk in a plastic enclosure.

Can just the CB part of the controller be faulty? The radio part still works.

Owen, if you are referring to the main cable going to the CB unit, I unplugged it and plugged it back in with no luck.

This is one of them - the one that connects under the passenger seat. Did you use some electrical cleaner on it and actually do the 'unplug' and 'plug procedure a few times? That will ensure to clean off much of the corrosion build up that WILL occur on any electrical connection.

There is an additional connection (that connects the CB unit to the main radio amp inside the front fairing). I do not recall what color the tape is on it but that would be another connection to check.

The other suggestion would be to make sure that there is actually a CB unit inside the plastic box under your trunk.

The "Audio" fuse is the fuse for the entire audio system - ie. radio, cassette, CD, intercom, handlebar control, and CB radio.

Bottom line, I think your options are (in no particular order other than #1):

1) Connections dirty/not actually making a good connection

2) CB unit itself is not present

3) CB unit itself is faulty

4) Handlebar controller is faulty (which I would doubt since you seem to have control over the radio, etc.; BUT is still a possibility)

5) Main radio amp inside fairing is faulty

Sorry to hear about your troubles. These kinds of electrical troubles I find frustrating because of the limited number of conclusive tests you can do before :mo money::mo money:

Good luck friend!!

OH YEA: keep an eye on Pinwall, Main radio amps and CBs show up every once and a while for ~300 and the handlebar controller comes up for ~200 occasionally as well (these are the prices for the components in good shape).

The CB unit is definitly there. Like I stated in another post, it worked to an extent before. I know the last time I messed with it, probably 8 months ago, the CB light came on (on the handlebar controller) and I got the CB-err on the display. I planned on doing the Marshall Mod and I was waiting until I did to check into it more so I have not tried it again until today. It's no big deal if it won't work because I will probably never use it. It just bugs me that it does not work.
