kkent66 Posted March 15, 2010 #1 Posted March 15, 2010 Looking for some new speakers for my 2006 RSV. Anyone suggestions for new speakers would be appreciated.
mike_kelly_68 Posted March 15, 2010 #2 Posted March 15, 2010 kkent66 welcome, some have used various brands including Pyle and even some from wally world, thing to remember is to make sure that the are marine grade speaker cones. Something else to consider are backing cones. These cones do not allow the air pressure created by the speaker vibration to escape out the back where you are not, and project all the sound toward you. Again, welcome
mike_kelly_68 Posted March 15, 2010 #3 Posted March 15, 2010 I knew there was a good post on this. Check this out, these are the most popular options and the instructions. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=16934
KiteSquid Posted March 15, 2010 #4 Posted March 15, 2010 Have you tried your local Yamaha Dealership? They should carry all the parts for your motorcycle. IF you ment to ask about non factory speakers, there are few choices on the market, most people go with the Polk Audio db401. clik HERE to go to Polk Audio's web page for this product. You need a 4" speaker that should be marine certified.......
whozleft Posted March 15, 2010 #5 Posted March 15, 2010 www.overtons.com Try checking out marine speakers. I am not sure if they make a 4" size, but it's worth looking. The ones on my pontoon boat sound great and they are waterproof to boot. Just another option to think about. Ride safe
eusa1 Posted March 15, 2010 #6 Posted March 15, 2010 i installed the polk audio db401 speakers, they work great.
outlawauto38 Posted March 15, 2010 #8 Posted March 15, 2010 i have tried a couple differant brands and i think the 401s are the best. just make sure you put boom mats behind them . i also put in bass blockers and i think it helps.
SkyKing Posted March 15, 2010 #9 Posted March 15, 2010 I noticed my stock speakers on the 2000 MM were distorted when I bought it a year ago....now with this thread, I just ordered a pair of Polk Audio db401 with 150 Bass HZ bass blockers and baffles. I am going to change the front pair for right now. Can't wait to try them out.
Cougar Posted March 15, 2010 #10 Posted March 15, 2010 You will be happy, now mind you that they still will not be fantastic but a heck of better, at first you will drool over the sound , let us know what you think! The stock speakers make really good fishing weights, then later add the cassett player when going shark hunting. now thats fun! Jeff
SkyKing Posted March 15, 2010 #11 Posted March 15, 2010 Since I have already changed out the cassette player with Ponch gauges, I will use both the old stock speakers and cassette on my next local fishing trip out in Corpus Christi Bay.
Lone Ranger Posted March 15, 2010 #13 Posted March 15, 2010 i have tried a couple differant brands and i think the 401s are the best. just make sure you put boom mats behind them . i also put in bass blockers and i think it helps. What are boom mats
Cougar Posted March 15, 2010 #14 Posted March 15, 2010 Like the one's I used in this small write-up a while back for the rear speakers. and also for the front. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18228
venture101 Posted March 16, 2010 #15 Posted March 16, 2010 I understand the function of the mats behind the speakers but the bass blockers? Can't you just turn the bass down and achieve the same thing?
Cougar Posted March 16, 2010 #16 Posted March 16, 2010 some like there sound louder and in doing so will distort you small speakers. you can still hear the bass but not feel it. make since? I am doing another experiment and I Just removed them from the front this winter while my fairing is off, As it has been long time since my blockers have been on my speakers. just to see the differance from a while back. I also removed the baffles as well on the front. I most likely will put them back on.
Guest scarylarry Posted March 16, 2010 #17 Posted March 16, 2010 One thing I found and may not be for everyone, is a headset...I love my JM headset, the next set I buy will be a edset, I heard many top reviews here.. Just more than my budget could handle this year with all my other wants, jack, carbon one, chrome things...Etc.. Already working 2 jobs eating beans to buy all these gizmos:crying:
Guest scarylarry Posted March 16, 2010 #19 Posted March 16, 2010 Oh it has GF wanted something and I had to choose what she wanted and what I wanted for the bike... GF is gone:crying: :Venture:is
Guest scarylarry Posted March 16, 2010 #21 Posted March 16, 2010 You know the ol' saying if the bike is happy everyone is happy... One must know their priorities...
Whitetales Posted April 11, 2010 #23 Posted April 11, 2010 I purchased a pair of Polk Audio db401's and tried them in the front of my '06 RSV. I thought the sound was very similar but that the Polk's did have a tad more bass tone to them. In doing a test of playing each speaker seperately I found that I prefered the stock Clarions over the Polk's. If anyone is interested in the Polk's I will sell them for Ten dollars less than I paid for them. I have already drilled out the speaker mounting holes as recomended to allow them to mount easier which was a great help. I also soldered a speaker wire tail to one of the speakers for my test so I didn't have to cut the factory speaker plug off before I decided if I was going to switch them out for sure. $55.00 TYD. They are still pretty much brand new in the box. Just out long enough to test them out in the garage.
