I have a small knocking noise when the scoot sits in neutral with the clutch out. When i squeeze the clutch it will go away. This is just starting to happen. Is there an adjustment that might be out.Only thing I have done different is change the oil.(rotella 15/45)

I did change the 6003 bearing because it started to make noise.

My 85 does that too, and I was concerned about it too, but Ive listend to a few other G1 machines and it seems to be common place with these bikes.

Don't know what oil you was using prior, but if it were me, I'd change back and see if the noise disappears. I know a lot of members here say Rotella is a good oil and it may be but I don't think it's formulated for small hi-reving motors and the trannies.

My 2 cents.

When I first bought my '83 it sounded like a mad man with a ballpeen hammer loose on the inside. I didn't know any different and thought it was normal. After ironing out all the issues with the brakes and clutch I finally got around to doing an oil and filter change. Put in my old standby Valvoline MC wet-clutch specific 20-50wt, and Holy Ratfeathers Batman the thing sounded like a new engine!! I have since changed to Castorol GTX 20-50wt, and it hasn't gotten any noisier because of it. So I'm with Herb on this one. Try GTX 20-50wt because it's cheaper, and see if things don't quiet down a bunch. :thumbsup2:

When it starts to knock... have you tried asking who's there? :confused24:

Sorry... couldn't help myself!

Same here and so did my '87 sometimes but it wasn't as bad as the '85. I had the '85 for 6 summers and it was always there... never got worse or better.

My 83 would start talking to me when it was time for a carb sync. It seems that the engine would start running rough and it would cause a backlash in the internals. Synced the carbs and the noise would go away. My G2 does the same but not as bad....not nearly as much mileage I guess! Brian
