Lines 15-20 is the same route I'm planning to take.

You have a place to crash in SLC!!

Dave

SLC? what's that?

As mentioned, we're "contemplating" the trip ... haven't even thought of places to stay either enroute or at Duango.

Salt Lake City!! You're 4 - 4.5 hours to Moab and another 3 to Durango. Should be a reasonable place to stay, we have pretty good rates!

Rick:

This is one of the routes that I have nominally planned for my ride up (or down depending on how my timing works out) for this summer (for one of my work trips to Vancouver). I can let you know how it is after I do it if you'd like.

:thumbsup2:

Salt Lake City should be avoided. Riding through there on I-15 is a very unpleasant experience, and I have done it a few times. Traffic is terrible, there are always accidents, it is hot, and then there's the whole "Utah drivers" thing. I'm from Southern California so I know a thing or two about traffic and I avoid SLC at all costs.

great advice ... but what about an alternate suggestion to a "furriner"?

Actually I've ridden thru there and really didn't seem bothered by the traffic and that was during the days when I lived in smaller cities ... before I moved here to Vancouver which has some of the worst traffic I've ever seen..partly due to the stupid drivers who immigrated here and partly due to the crappy infrastructure. I've also ridden in Southern California... if one can call SLO and points north as "southern".

It's probably just what you know. Living here you get use to when and where to go and not to go.

You're welcome to come by anyway. :missingtooth:

We are planning to go to the Durango R.I. also. And we are thinking hard about going to the Kootney R.I. Definately going to SLC in May for the World Superbike Races again. Went last year and had a great time.

Brian, I'll see you at the Alberta/Sask M&E in June. I've been trying to get BillM30 to commit to Durango. Maybe we can persuade them at the Kootney R.I.. I've also invited them to the Alberta/Sask M&E but haven't heard back from them yet. Waiting to get a firm destination for the M&E before I really start to pester them:hihi:.

Anyway, SilverT if I don't get to meet you at Kruzin in the Kootney's matbe we'll see you in Durango.

First, I've lived in Salt Lake City for 16 years and the traffic here is no worse than any other city during rush hour - avoid rush hour times at all costs just like you would LA, Denver, Chicago etc.

Second, the Durango area has great MC rides. Might I suggest at trip out to Mesa Verde National Park just West of Durango. There are over 600 cliff dwellings built by the ancient ones. Easy to spend an entire day there. Then next day head up the "Million Dollar Highway"550 to Silverton, Ouray and spend the night in Telluride. Don't forget to ride to the dead end in Telluride to see the waterfall. Next day continue the loop back to Durango or go North to Gunnison to see the Black Canyon

Don't know how much time you have, but see your on Interstate alot.

If you have time, I would suggest staying on I-15 past Salt Lake, Utah and catching state hwy 17 at Anderson Junction, Utah to hwy 9 east at La Verkin, takes you through Zion NP and to hwy 89 at Carmel Junction. Ride 89 to Jacob Lake then hwy 67 the 45 miles in and out to see the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and Lodge. Very nice ride through the forest. Leaving the North Rim catch hwy 89 again and go east through/to Marble Canyon drive down a paved road after crossing the suspension bridge to see where they launch the rafts for river trips down the Colorado river through the Grand Canyon. Anyway back to hwy 89 and it wraps around to Paige AZ and Lake Powell.

On hwy 89 you will intersect with hwy 160 across and through the Indian Reservation and catch up to you origional route near Mesa Verde NP, also a should see, then a short

ride to Durango. If you do dicide to cross the reservation from Paige AZ, keep your gas tank topped off. This area is beautiful in it's own desiclite way.

Have ridden all these rodes and often go out of my way to ride then when I'm heading

to the Northwest.

Let me know the dates you will be around Durango, if it includes a weekend, my wife and I would ride up for some ice cream. Sorry I don't have a lot of time during the summer as I'm a one man operation at work and weekends is all I have Customers that make orders that have to be shipped same day during the week. You can always PM, me.
