Oh come on guys, that was just my opinion. No need to get ugly. In fact, I traded my 2008 HD Lowrider for an 07 RSTD because I always wanted a HD, but once I got it, I quickly found out that it was not what I wanted that's after spending about $3K worth of accessories. The RSTD is a much better riding bike and I enjoy riding it however, if I had the $$$ I know I would up grade to a Goldwing.

I'm sorry if my comment made anyone angry, but I thought this was a open form and all opinions are welcomed, perhaps I'm wrong.

don't take it personally. it's easy for people to talk brash on the internet. We all end up comming off a little more audacious than we mean to.

but a goldwing? really? save your money and just get a first gen! :sun:

I've heard that there is no such thing as 'bad publicity' and I think that statement is absolutly correct. HD has got to love threads and discussion such as this one,,, but then so do I, lots of interesting info here,,,, keep it up guys, I need to get smarter,,, and that's not easy at my age.

I believe that the RSV serves a great niche market. Think of it this way, If a person had a list that that started out with...

1) full dress touring

2) cruiser styling

3) shaft drive / liquid cooling / 4 cylinder (pick one)

What are you going to buy?

Hi Mark,

If you're seriously interested in a Goldwing, they're not as expensive as you are thinking. Low-miles late model GWs can be had for less than $10k. You just have to do a bit of searching, and you might have to drive a bit to get it. I close friend of mine and his wife both ride GWs. He has the 1800 and she had the 1500. One day she ended up on his, and didn't like hers anymore. They did a search and found a yellow 2003 (my favorite color GW) with 15k miles for $9k, so now they both have 1800s.

His wife is 5'5", and I was shocked that she rode one. They highly recommended one to me, so I looked at them and was amazed at how low the seats are. I just couldn't get over the sea of plastic, though, and the huge dash full of buttons and knobs. To me, it just felt all wrong. But, knowing how much better the GW handles than the other bikes I was considering, I kept trying to like them.

Two dealers I visited had both GWs and RSVs, so I got to do side by side tests. For me, the GW seat and leg position were not as comfortable as the RSV. For me and my wife, the RSV was the most comfortable bike we'd ever been on.

If you're not really satisfied with your RSTD, it wouldn't cost much to swap bikes. If I found a bike I liked better than my RSV, I'd swap.

I am satisfied with my RSTD! It fits my budget and is what I wanted. Sure beats the heck out of my HD. That's why I. Traded it for my RSTD.

However, if I. Had the money to burn, I would like to get a Wing.:173:

For me it's a matter of different mechanical worlds. I had a '50 FL. Ok, not quite the same as a modern HD, but pretty close really. I've been on Ventures since '90. I can't imagine giving up my shaft drive, liquid cooling, and V-4 for a belt/chain driven air cooled V twin of any kind. I still like 'em, I just don't want one. Different strokes and all that. (nudge nudge wink wink)

My Harley buddies tease me. The not-so-buddy HD guys at work (union) gave me a hard time. One smart-guy put a little pile of rice under my bike. I made a deal of scooping it up and saying loudly that "I'm gonna take this up with the dealer!" It's ok. I pull over now and again and wait on 'em. No problem. ;) Hey, it's not that much slower than a First Gen. Plus I have photos of both an '85 and an '06 at the top of Pike's Peak, Mt. Evans, and Trail Ridge Road. That one shuts 'em up every time.

Ride what you like and don't let anyone's comments get on your nerves. The problem is really theirs unless you let it become yours too.

If you really want a Wing, Southern Honda (two stores, Chattanooga TN and Orlando FL) has left over 08 Wings starting at $18.5K http://www.southernhonda.com/pages/newvehicles/viewcategories/25/37/2008/honda-motorcycles.aspx

But in my opinion a Wing is not an upgrade, at best a lateral move. Same with the BMW LT or the HD dresser.

I had a HD guy ask me if I was ready to upgrade? My reply was very straight faced...I'm not ready for a Honda Gold Wing yet! The look on his face was PRICELESS.... then I broke out of my straight face now laughing... I get about a 50/50 return laugh and handshake... the rest walk away.

Life is too short to spend with 50% of them.

The truth is I too think the GW is Equal too the RSV but it WORKS SO WELL with that question... LOL

something else I have not seen mentioned is insurance rates. I just checked with allstate and the same coverage for the same year ultra would be over 3 times the rate for the RSV.

I pay $75 per year and the harley would be $237.

The goldwing would be about $155.:thumbsup2:

Here is what I am saying maybe when you wave at a harley rider and they do not wave back it is not because they think they are better than you. Maybe it is because they do not want to wave at a hypocrit. Who cares what anyone rides sure I think we all reserve the right to brag on the bike we have, I think we all reserve the right to our opinions, and I think we all reserve the right to harass one another and get into a good debate. '

But at the end of the Day like my Friend Bob always tells me" it is all about the ride"

Ride Safe, Ride Long, and Ride on!

P.S.

For 11 years Yamaha has done nothing to their tourbike to improve it, yet they cost as much as a goldwing 1800 fuel injected, or a kawasaki Voyager 1700 vtwin fuel injected, or a Harley Ultra classic with new frame also a fuel injected bike. Non of which have that top heavy feeling, I can say one of the star chapters I rode with 5 out of 7 ventures had scratches on the fairings from where they had went over.

That's because of the risk of theft. The greater the risk the higher the insurance cost. Now really analyse what I just wrote.

I need to remember that quote. Thanks for the laugh. :)

It's not all that. Take it from me who lately got back in the saddle. I purchased a new 06 Suzuki Boulard M50 and had that for a year and started feeling what you are feeling. After some smooth talking I got my wife to agree to buy a new 2008 HD Dyna Low Rider. After dumping tons of money for accessories, stage one upgrades and new Vance & Hines Big Radious Two into one pipes, I soon found out that the Harley groups are just like everone else. They are just friends with a common interest. I made no new friends nor did I feel special riding a Harley. Frankly, I soon regreted it. The bike gave me mitten but trouble and for any distance riding it sucked.

Then when I desided to sell it after six months and 7k miles the bank told me it only worth $8,900! Harley would give me no deals nor could I sell it for anything close to the $17k I paid for it. I traded it at a Harley dealer for my 2007 RSTD which I think is a much better bike to ride and I have more riding buddies now.

My two cents.:happy-emoticon:
