SC89Venture Posted March 5, 2010 #1 Posted March 5, 2010 Another newbie question. There is a handle by the passenger seat, if I follow the cable it goes to the passenger backrest. What is this supposed to do? I pulled up on the lever and I think it is supposed to allow access to the rear compartment? Thanks in advance, Don
Squidley Posted March 5, 2010 #2 Posted March 5, 2010 Don, The backrest is moveable and has 3 positions the passenger can put it in as far as tilt angle. The lever operates the locking mechanism for the backrest
kbran Posted March 5, 2010 #3 Posted March 5, 2010 The lever is for adjustment to the passenger back rest. It allows you to move the backrest forward or backward.
bald josh Posted March 5, 2010 #4 Posted March 5, 2010 its supposed to adjust the passengers back rest, hooks in at the bottom. try pulling the lever and manually moving the rest back and forth.
SilvrT Posted March 5, 2010 #5 Posted March 5, 2010 ...BUT... you NEVER tell your passenger what it really does... you tell her it's for when SHE wants to apply the BRAKES !!
mraf Posted March 5, 2010 #6 Posted March 5, 2010 As you've been told it is for the backrest. This is a weak point on the trunk lid. It is spring loaded and should move forward at the top when pulled. When I bought mine the passenger backrest pivot point had broken the plastic trunk. Check this area out for cracks in the trunk. If you remove it and are handy this can be fixed and not seen afterwards. I reinforced mine with a thin piece of steel. Something that Yamaha should have done from the factory being that it takes a beating.
