Wanderer Posted March 4, 2010 #1 Posted March 4, 2010 My job is taking me to N.E. Utah to work on a dam project for the dam government. Report on March 15. Can I, would you guys recommend my riding my bike up from Alabama? 3 months there and then a project in Colorado ? ? Looking forward to it.
utadventure Posted March 4, 2010 #2 Posted March 4, 2010 You may still be running into cold and some snow in March. I'd bring the bike, especially if you'll have access to a vehicle while here. There are some beautiful areas to ride in what we call the Uintah basin, as well as Colorado and Wyoming. If you're coming through SLC, please let us know. Dave

Dave Haven't got all the particulars worked out as of yet. I'm gonna be on such a tight schedule I haven't figured out how to get home and get the bike before I have to report to the Gorge. I'll start nailing down the particulars tomorrow. There is some question as to whether I have to be there on the 12th or 15th. Either way I'm gonna have to move quick. Maybe I'll have time to get a U-haul and get the bike there, I hope so. Looking forward to meeting every one from around that neck of the woods. If I swing thru the SLC I'll definitely give you a shout. Looking forward to the visit. Looks tentatively like 3 months there and then over to Colorado. Will be working on some dam projects for the dam government.
utadventure Posted March 8, 2010 #4 Posted March 8, 2010 Three months at the Gorge and then to Colorado, you'll start out with cold weather now but will have a have some great riding before you go home. I look forward to hear your plans. Do you know where you'll be living? I have some friends that ride the area and live in Vernal. I'm sure that would love to have you join them. Dave
Zfrebird4 Posted March 8, 2010 #5 Posted March 8, 2010 I am in Fla and you can always flop here among two bachelors in a small house and one bathroom. LOL. I have a full couch that also makes a bed. I am in Ft Collins. Jack Z Jack Tharp Ft Collins

I can't drive 2000 miles at one time like in the old day's. . . unless I'm on the bike.
Condor Posted March 8, 2010 #8 Posted March 8, 2010 I'd suggest staying south as long as possible before heading north into Utah. Might take a little longer but the weather windows get bigger......
Wanderer Posted March 11, 2010 Author #9 Posted March 11, 2010 I'd suggest staying south as long as possible before heading north into Utah. Might take a little longer but the weather windows get bigger...... Preciate it Condor, but I got to be there Friday for work on the dam. I picked up an 8 foot trailer at Lowes and the bike doesn't exactly fit, but I just tied the tailgate/ramp up so it works. Actually, I've been pulling it for the last 10 hours at 65 to 70 and it performs very well. I'll redo the deck of the trailer when I get settled. Oh, I tried to put the bike in at an angle, but that really warps the trailer. CYA all soon. L8R Ted
Wanderer Posted March 11, 2010 Author #10 Posted March 11, 2010 By the way I'm getting in on Friday and don't have to report to work until Monday. So - - - maybe after I get settled, Saturday afternoon or Sunday we can get in a ride. I'll be staying at the Flaming Gorge Resort in Dutch John.
utadventure Posted March 11, 2010 #11 Posted March 11, 2010 Post your route if you get the chance. Dave
Wanderer Posted March 11, 2010 Author #12 Posted March 11, 2010 Post your route if you get the chance. Dave I just noticed it will be a little cool, but that's ok. I haven't really thought about a route. It seems there are only a couple of roads down from there. If you're interested, maybe we could meet in the middle. Not being familiar with the area or surrounding or snow, etc. I haven't really formulated a plan.
utadventure Posted March 11, 2010 #13 Posted March 11, 2010 Avoid I-70 west of Denver. It's closed due to a rock slide.
Wanderer Posted March 11, 2010 Author #14 Posted March 11, 2010 Avoid I-70 west of Denver. It's closed due to a rock slide. Thanks. I suspect that that is just where the GPS has me headed.
Wanderer Posted March 13, 2010 Author #15 Posted March 13, 2010 Just arrived. Man what an ordeal. It rained on us, I mean torrential, all the way to Kentucky. We got a little break until Missouri and more rain. Didn't check the ball on the truck and lost the trailer and almost the bike on I80W in Omaha (thank God I had the chains on). Got a hold of a Venture Rider from Council Bluffs, IA (Bill W.), my friend indeed, and he brought me a hitch ball and got us back on way. 10 minutes later we run a blizzard all the way to Grand Island, NE where we finally stopped for the second night. Oh and a warning ticket for no tail lights. I had a blown fuse. Needless to say we were not doing well on time. Got here and 8 miles away from the Lodge got bad gas, now the truck won't hardly run. The nearest store, drug store, etc is 45 miles away. This is a tourist and resort area only and nothing here; although, I'll say the lodge is very nice. Pics on the way. Very beautiful area here.

Wanderer Posted March 14, 2010 Author #18 Posted March 14, 2010 Glad to see you made it OK. Lot to be said about staying south.... True, but you got to go where the boss sends ya, or start looking elsewhere. I like the fact I even have a job.
utadventure Posted March 14, 2010 #19 Posted March 14, 2010 Glad you're there safe!! Welcome to the snow today. You may get to ride a bit next week though. Dave

Wanderer Posted March 14, 2010 Author #21 Posted March 14, 2010 Not that great, but most were with the cell. Haven't found my Sony yet. http://lh5.ggpht.com/_xOOWRVc9-a4/S5wvTOSoowI/AAAAAAAABI0/CzofZupGjs4/s640/0310000718.jpg http://lh4.ggpht.com/_xOOWRVc9-a4/S5wvT170TPI/AAAAAAAABI4/c3kGN1XF0vk/s640/0310000718a.jpg http://lh5.ggpht.com/_xOOWRVc9-a4/S5wvU745oBI/AAAAAAAABI8/wNqjOKlIfAQ/s640/0310000719.jpg http://lh3.ggpht.com/_xOOWRVc9-a4/S5wvWadlTpI/AAAAAAAABJE/Qc2sXRqyU1Y/s640/0312001140.jpg http://lh4.ggpht.com/_xOOWRVc9-a4/S5wvW0us8CI/AAAAAAAABJI/TU7BgZ6MZgA/s640/0312001141.jpg http://lh6.ggpht.com/_xOOWRVc9-a4/S5wvXnozY8I/AAAAAAAABJM/jGk2huKb7GQ/s640/0312001143.jpg http://lh5.ggpht.com/_xOOWRVc9-a4/S5wvZpeSgQI/AAAAAAAABJY/GqIT2nawbPE/s640/0312001531.jpg http://lh6.ggpht.com/_xOOWRVc9-a4/S5wvaCRZjDI/AAAAAAAABJc/nfwMBE5bNo0/s640/0313001110.jpg The Walmart is only about 35 miles from where we stay. The pictures suck I know, I'll try and get out on the bike tomorrow and get some better ones.
Sleeperhawks Mechanic Posted March 14, 2010 #22 Posted March 14, 2010 Great pics! :thumbsup2:Thank you for sharing!
Zfrebird4 Posted March 14, 2010 #23 Posted March 14, 2010 ... THAT was a lot of driving in a short bit of time! I know where you are and the general area; spent 2 years ca in Utah in SLC and area, ended in a bad marriage of less than one year. Life. But the area is beautiful to ride in. So you two be safe; I rejoice in your job (and Squidley's new one in TX). So glad I am rather well retired $$ in this hellish economy Washington has given us via all their devotion to our well being. LOL. Keep us all posted here. Neat to share in each others lives. Got in 150 miles in CO today, though cool towards the end of the scoot. Hoping for a good tomorrow for me, and both of you! JackZ
Riderduke Posted March 14, 2010 #24 Posted March 14, 2010 TED, looks like you gonna have some nice riding in that area:happy34:
Wanderer Posted March 14, 2010 Author #25 Posted March 14, 2010 TED, looks like you gonna have some nice riding in that area:happy34: Or not? This is what I ran into after my trip today to Walmart. I started out on the bike, but decided after a 1/2 mile or so even with a car tire I better use some discretion. Glad I did. http://lh4.ggpht.com/_xOOWRVc9-a4/S502Y9Q3rXI/AAAAAAAABKk/FGFJyTLHXVo/s640/SAM_0013.JPG
