The reason that they are called Passing Lamps is because they mark the "Passing" of yet another 1st Gen owner over to the 2nd Gen world.

If the passing lights are wired factory then you have the little switch beside the power outlet to turn the passing lights on and off. I highly recommend not to push that button while moving. The wiring can be changed so that the passing lights work all the time (MY preference), on when the high beam is on or on when the low beams are on and off when the high beams are on. Welcome to the larger more comfortable 2nd Gen. Now people will know what you are riding when you pass them. I always had trouble recognizing a 1st gen from a old Honda Goldwing. They looked the same and they sounded the same. The 2nd Gen sounds nothing like a HD and a much smoooother ride.
