Monty Posted February 28, 2010 #1 Posted February 28, 2010 Does anyone have a pic of where they might have a cigarette lighter mounted on their RSV? I want to add one that is easily accessible while riding. I have seen a pic of the Kuryakyn lighter while searching on here. I would like to see some installed, to give me some ideas.
wahco1956 Posted February 28, 2010 #2 Posted February 28, 2010 I just installed a lighter where the power pod was in the fairing, and increased the fuse size. It has been like this for 5 years and I have never had a problem.
Monty Posted February 28, 2010 Author #3 Posted February 28, 2010 I would like to keep the existing power outlet, and add a cigarette lighter. I have looked at several, but wondered if there were any with pics of installed units. Thanks.
davecb Posted March 1, 2010 #4 Posted March 1, 2010 I mounted one on the inside of the left airbox. You can't see it, but you can feel for it....
BuddyRich Posted March 1, 2010 #5 Posted March 1, 2010 There's a factory mounted Cig lighter (with out the lighter has a black rubber plug in it) on the left side of the inner faring just in front of where your clutch hand is. Are you asking about that ?
67mini67 Posted March 1, 2010 #6 Posted March 1, 2010 I installed another power outlet behind the drivers seat on the right side. I use it to charge the phone. Here are a couple of pics.
Monty Posted March 1, 2010 Author #7 Posted March 1, 2010 I know where the existing power outlets are, and I want to keep them. I want to add an additional, easy to reach outlet for cigarette lighter. Thinking of the Kuryakyn handlebar mount.
sarges46 Posted March 1, 2010 #8 Posted March 1, 2010 I dont have a picture but if you look on the left side between the seats you will see a rubber plug. I pulled this plug and mounted a lighter right there. Hard wired it to an accessory fuse box I had installed. It is not the easiest to get to until you are used to it. But with practise and if you arms are long enough it works great. Make sure to get a weather proof one if you can as it will get wet in there.
Tartan Terror Posted March 1, 2010 #9 Posted March 1, 2010 In not a smoker but how about this for a idea. Many of us have gutted our much sought after cassette players so how about this. behind the flip down door you will have left make a plate with the lighter installed and you will have room left for a fresh pack of smokes. Have I got you thinking yet?
Monty Posted March 1, 2010 Author #10 Posted March 1, 2010 Thanks for the replies. I want to keep it handy, such as the bars or fairing area. I am installing my Ponch gauge set where the cassette goes, this weekend, so that idea is out.
ronhenry4 Posted March 2, 2010 #11 Posted March 2, 2010 I bought one from JP cycles and mounted it to the left side of the handlebar i'll take a pic and post it.

Bad thing is...I've had my Kury lighter, new and still in the package, since about July last year. Just haven't got around to mounting it yet... But it looks real good in the package in the computer room....taunting me;) I'm such a slacker...
Roadhand Posted April 13, 2010 #14 Posted April 13, 2010 I placed a lighter under the seat, left hand side, in the hard plastic. It has a cutout for one and I ran a "fused" wire from the battery. It is right there and you won't see any wires and the chrome lighter knob looks good there as well. I have had it there for at least two years and can perform the act of lighting up at any speed. If you are interested, pm me and I will take a couple of pictures for you
Freebird Posted April 13, 2010 #15 Posted April 13, 2010 I have one the same place. I just replaced it this past weekend. It was about 4 years old and corrosion finally got it. Not bad though. About $7.00 for 4 years service.
Monty Posted April 13, 2010 Author #16 Posted April 13, 2010 I posted quite a while back that I had installed one when I did my gauge install. Easy as pie. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3831.jpg
BradT Posted April 14, 2010 #17 Posted April 14, 2010 I just use a wind proof lighter. Picked them up at the buck store, uses regular Butane to refill and works well. Brad
RoadKill Posted April 14, 2010 #18 Posted April 14, 2010 I would like to keep the existing power outlet, and add a cigarette lighter. I have looked at several, but wondered if there were any with pics of installed units. Thanks. I found an electric (battery) lighter on ebay, two AAA. Its windproof, then I picked up a lighter leash at the convenient store. When I'm ready just stick the cig in the end of the lighter, pull the trigger and poof. The lighter leash keeps me from dropping with gloves and my Arthritis. I change the batteries about every month, depending on how much I use it.
