First a question. In the pictures there are two plugs shown, a white one and a green one. the green one is from the clutch switch but i cant find where it goes, any ideas?

The white one is a mystery...??? it has two black/white wires and a black/yellow and a blue/yellow wire.

two of the pictures show a white plug that plugs into something on the middle of the rail. that relay is missing, what is it?

the frame is from the 83 and dosent look the same as the 86 but the relays and harness is from the 86. all wiring from the 83 has been removed and replaced with an 86 harness. hand controls and all.

Picture #4 is to the 41R flasher relay

I have harnesses out of an 84 & an 88 and neither has the mate to the green connector in picture #2

Do you have cruise control on bike. This may be the two wire switch from the clutch. If you have cruise it should be a 4 wire switch. There will probably be an empty female connector in headlight bucket. 4 pin connector. Two Black w/ White tracers, One Blue w/ yellow tracer & 1 Black w/ Yellow tracer. This may be what is shown in picture #1.

Attached is a couple of pictures of the 41R flasher relay, bike should not start without this relay. It also houses the start circuit relay.

the story behind all this is that i acquired an 86 and thought to rebuild it but that ain't in my nature, i had to hot-rod it.

the 86 has something wrong with the motor, not sure what; but it had fair luggage

(light damage) and the "Royal accessories" air ride and cruise....etc.

My 83 really needed some work on the baggage and the "Royal accessories" had long since been removed..so it seemed like a good winter project to mate the two..

  • So far i have put the 86 swing arm, mono shock and drive train on the 83.
  • added the dual piston rear brake caliper, still have to do the front.
  • added the rear sub-frame from the 86.
  • I'll be using the 83 front faring so i am leaving the 83 faring frame; but i'll have to weld the brackets for the cruise pump and actuator.
  • added the 83 hand controls.
  • added the air ride pump and hoses.

More to come. hope someone can help with identifying the relay and plugs.

picture #1 is to the clutch switch

you know, sometimes a man just needs a slap upside the head to get it going, kinda like an old tv set. Now that you mention it, the 86 clutch reservoir was no good so i left the 83 on the bars. Didn't change the switch.

that explains why the starter button wont work. Anyone have a spare laying around??

Thanks for the help!

I went to my local used bike parts supplier and got the flasher relay. now the starter works.

The green connector was from the 83 clutch switch that i forgot to change out, I changed it out and everything seems to be working now.

Bob, i did read somewhere on here that there was a cali. smog upgrade and a plug for it. i thought that that was what it was too to start with but after reading dingy's post, i remembered that i hadn't changer that one out yet

Again, THANKS!!! fellas.

The green connector is for California Emmissions upgrade...

I could be wrong here, but I believe the smog connector is near the left side upper frame rail, near the fuel tank filler.

On my 88 harness the connector for it is right where the fuse box leg branches off.
