Not sure how I did it, but the infamous "whine" has all but disappeared! I screwed up on the last oil change about 2 weeks ago and re-added about 7 oz. of Motorkote after the change, when I should have skipped this change. But it looks like adding a second round of the stuff has eliminated the whine. I had the bike out all day yesterday and today in this beautiful GA weather - mid 60's and sunny for a change - and it is running perfectly. Got about 48 combined MPG's too. Amazing.

What stuff are you talking about, first I have heard about it(Motorkote). Would pay big bucks if it gets rid of the WHINE. Can you explain more.

Don't count on it... it seems to have worked for some but not all and it certainly didn't work for me. Only after I changed to the "I" basket did my whine "go away". Then again, that doesn't work for all either.

One thing that may mitigate the potential of "overusing" Motorkote is to let your oil drain for a very long time (hours if possible), including running a half quart of whatever oil you use as a "flush" before refilling and adding another dose of the 'Kote. I do this every time without fail, including a 20 - 30 min oil warm up, and you'd be amazed at how much additional used oil comes out with the flush that didn't drain out initially. I also rock the bike side to side several times to make sure it's all out of the nooks and crannies in the crankcase and pan. I know, "oil change basics 101", but I know a lot of guys that don't do this at all. Over time, it all adds up, and you can't argue with the results of a '99 RSV getting 48+mpg and running like it's brand new.

Just sayin.... :2cents:

Does anyone know if using Motorkote effects Yamaha's warranty?

Not having one under warranty, I couldn't tell you. But the tech at the factory I know says probably not, since they are a proponent of protective additives, including all the Yamalube stuff.
