Cougar Posted February 19, 2010 #1 Posted February 19, 2010 I think this has been discussed here before, I have been noticing over the years that my clear-coat on my tank is starting to scratch a little and I was wondering were some of you are placing the holder that was on the tank for your head-seat plug in might be now> If moved? . any pictures would be great. not sure if there is a better location for this or maybe another idea? my cord when plugged in seems to be the problem. (rubbing in that area) all the time. Thanks, Jeff
Carbon_One Posted February 19, 2010 #2 Posted February 19, 2010 I've seen a lot of folks tie wrap the holder to the handle bar or wedged between the clutch reservoir and bar. Mine's tucked up under the tank since I don't use it. Larry
Gary N. Posted February 19, 2010 #3 Posted February 19, 2010 I got rid of the holder and pulled the cable back and run it along the left handle bar out to the radio controller and zip tied it there. Nothing touches the tank now.
Cougar Posted February 19, 2010 Author #4 Posted February 19, 2010 So Far both are great idea's! These are the kind of answers That I need, otherwise I think my paint job will go to poop if I do not move this holder before this riding season. I already have the holder removed. Was just not sure were to place it. but seems like I will not even use it anymore ... could even GOOP the holder to the bar maybe.. Thanks
Sling Posted February 20, 2010 #5 Posted February 20, 2010 I took the plug off the tank and attached it to the plastic peice just to the left of the ingnition switch. The holder is permanent, but I ty-rapped the plug to it. The pigtail wire from the helmet does not touch the tank at all. Hope this helps.
Cougar Posted February 20, 2010 Author #6 Posted February 20, 2010 Sling does the helmet cord touch the tank though? looks like another great idea.
KeithR Posted February 20, 2010 #7 Posted February 20, 2010 This is what I have done. But you do need a tank bib with a pouch! Keith
Cougar Posted February 20, 2010 Author #9 Posted February 20, 2010 How do you remove it from the tank. Cut the tie-wrap? what great idea's folks. keep um coming.
eusa1 Posted February 20, 2010 #10 Posted February 20, 2010 I got rid of the holder and pulled the cable back and run it along the left handle bar out to the radio controller and zip tied it there. Nothing touches the tank now. me too!!
Sling Posted February 20, 2010 #11 Posted February 20, 2010 Sling does the helmet cord touch the tank though? looks like another great idea. No it doesn't touch the tank. Here is a picture I took to try and show it. As you can see it doesn't touch
midnite Posted February 20, 2010 #12 Posted February 20, 2010 I remounted mine to the tank bib, so if it does hang down it will only hit the bib. reattached it with 3m tape.
wes0778 Posted February 20, 2010 #13 Posted February 20, 2010 I fastened the factory holder down under one of the chrome cover bolts. I need to zip tie the plug to the holder. Also, I disconnect the pigtail at my helmet and store it in the tank bib when I'm not using it.
rumboogy Posted February 20, 2010 #14 Posted February 20, 2010 This is what I have done. But you do need a tank bib with a pouch! Keith Three questions Keith 1. Do you have some pictures that show the entire bib? 2. Where did you get the bib? 3. How did you mount the pigtail to the leather pouch? Studs? Thanks, Wally
Vance Posted February 20, 2010 #15 Posted February 20, 2010 This is what I have done. But you do need a tank bib with a pouch! Keith Keith, that looks good. I like the way you did that.
KeithR Posted February 20, 2010 #16 Posted February 20, 2010 Hi Wally The bib I have is a Hopnel. I used a Wire holder as shown on the picture and used a couple of rivets to mount it that I picked up at the shoe repair shop.(Not sure if the clip was mounted to the tank when I bought the bike?) Behind the plug itself I had the shoe guy install an eyelet and I just use a elastic hair tie to hold it in place. I just tied a knot in the tie and put it out through the hole. It stays in place and can't move around. A couple of more pictures attached.....if you need more let me know. Keith
Cougar Posted February 20, 2010 Author #17 Posted February 20, 2010 It simply amazes me on all these great idea's just for a plug!
awsmsrv Posted February 20, 2010 #18 Posted February 20, 2010 Since I don't use it, I just tucked it under the black plastic thing surrounding the ignition. Doesn't touch anything.
