Greetings, I am starting a rebuild on my 83 1st Gen, I've reviewed the exhaust threads on the website, Does anyone have model or part numbers for replacement exhaust's. MY original exhaust pipes are starting to rust out on the bottom. I'm not looking to sound like a Harley, but a little rumble would be nice. Here in MN, Metric guys are left in the dark since HD's are huge here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.:fingers-crossed-emo

Jardines and Macs are the 2 aftermarkets that come to mind immediately with me. I know that Condor here on the site did a group by on some Macs not too long ago. You might want to get ahold of him and see if there were any leftovers.

BTW welcome to the group, we hope you stick around, this is a great place with lots of info :thumbsup2:

Don't have a better answer for you that what Squidley just said. But, since you are over in Hastings, let me hijack your thread for a minute and extend an invitation to join us at the Meet and Greet tomorrow morning, 11:00, at Chico's in Onamia.

Give you a chance to meet some of the other members here in MN and to kick around some thoughts on rebuilding your scoot.

All in all they are a great bunch of guys... well with the exception of Grandpagak, Renne, Bubber, and, and... Heck, I just realized I am the only straight arrow that is going to be there tomorrow. :rotfl:

Anywhooo... if you can fit it into your schedule, please join us.

Now, back to your regular programming.

Hey soldierboy,

Just got a pm from cimack that was forwarded on from mother as to what he did with his bike when the pipes rusted out. You can go get a set of road king take offs from harley or ebay etc. Then go to auto parts store and get a muffler pipe extension with a 15 degree angle. Measure the collector od and the rk id . The 15 degree piece should be able to slip over the od of thee collecter ond inside tie id of the rk. Use rk clamps on the rks and original calmps on the collecter. Then fashin a braket in the rear tohold up the pipe in desired location. Mother stated he used the bottom bolt of the saddle bags with a bent piece of 1 1/2 steel.

The rks are not loud and do give a rumble, They can also be drilled to bark louder if you so desire.

Hope this helps .AS soon as time and money co operate this is the mod that I will be doing to mine.

Hey Soldierboy,

There is no need to re-jet the Carbs. for the installation of the Road King Mufflers. All of the First Gen. VR's run a bit on the rich side so there is no need for more fuel. If you get a popping in the pipes after the RK install, do a search for the "5Bikes Needle Shim Mod" This mod will lean out the main jet and reduce the backfiring in the exhausts. If you have questions about this mod, please feel free to PM me. I have a "KIT" that provides parts for this mod. Welcome to the site and enjoy your new to you VR,:thumbsup2:
