What year did they start painting the engine?

Do any of you know what year Yamaha started painting the 1300 engine?

I've seen several pics of Ventures without the Black painted engine, but mine is painted.

My 2004 is painted.

Mine is an 02 Midnight and I believe it was the first year for the black engine. The basic Venture in 02 was a silver engine...if I can remember right.

If the 2004 is painted black, that's when they started because the 2003 non-midnight (the red and gold one) was shiny. Don't know if the midnights are different, like their seats.

the midnight 'black" ventures have always had the black engine.

they quit offering the argent /grey engine after the 2003 model

the 2004 to current models are all with black engines

When I had my 99 it was silver and a lot of people were painting the fins black. I wanted to but never did. Then when I got my 06 and the engine was black I tried to find some silver fins. Go figure !!!

I'm pretty sure they changed to black in 02. All the engines are painted though. 99 thru 01 painted silver/grey color and 02 and up black.

probaly sometime before 85, maybe even in the 60's and 70's. Mine is a grayish color.

i put a set of my diamond cut (silver) engine fins and dog bones on my buddy's 2005 black engine, and made it run faster!!
