Aimhigh Posted February 18, 2010 #1 Posted February 18, 2010 This may qualify as a silly question...but I'm asking anyway. Does anyone put the clear plastic cover over their GPS screen? I am reluctant to put it on as there might be some coating on the screen???? It is a Garmin 660. Thanks for input.
rumboogy Posted February 18, 2010 #2 Posted February 18, 2010 It won't hurt the GPS, it's really a personal preference. I have heard that some say sometimes it has messed up their calibration, but the few people I know that use them have had no problems. I don't use one on mine, however my Zumo 660 stays on the bike OR in the protective case that comes with the GPS. But with that said, I did scratch mine once...had to send it back in and they replaced the screen for free...I am just more careful now. Use the case and keep it mounted...and I wouldn't mess with the protective plastic. Just my opinion though... Wally
Owen Posted February 18, 2010 #3 Posted February 18, 2010 I don't use anything on my 550 however I would think a cell phone protective sheet would work. Something ment for use on a touch type phone such as my iphone... just a thought.
Aimhigh Posted February 18, 2010 Author #4 Posted February 18, 2010 Thanks, guys...I guess I won't mess with it either
Eck Posted February 18, 2010 #5 Posted February 18, 2010 Yep, I use a zip lock baggie and then use a potato chip bag clip to help aid in holding it on.
skydoc_17 Posted February 18, 2010 #6 Posted February 18, 2010 Hey Jim, I have the Garmin Nuvi 855 mounted on my 87'VR and have a screen protector on my GPS. I was riding pretty late in the season this last year, and with wearing gloves, the protector has saved my screen without a doubt. I also live on a dirt road and dust is a BIG problem for me. I have replaced the protector 3 times so far, (I bought a 5 pack at wally mart for $5.00 when I first got the GPS.) Jean is the manager of the electronics dept. at Target and they sell a lot of the screen protectors with the GPS's. She was the one that suggested it to me. I am a bit "heavy handed" but have never noticed a difference in the function of the unit because of the protector. Earl
