Guest seuadr Posted February 17, 2010 #1 Posted February 17, 2010 i just know i saw a how to written up by some awesome person on here about adding grease zerts to various locations on the first gen bikes... but i can't for the life of me find it. does anyone have a link saved to it? I searched for grease, grease inserts swingarm grease. I am probably just blind, so would someone please give me a nudge in the right direction? thanks in advance! Jared:banana:
dingy Posted February 17, 2010 #2 Posted February 17, 2010 See my post in the thread below. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43827 Gary i just know i saw a how to written up by some awesome person on here about adding grease zerts to various locations on the first gen bikes... but i can't for the life of me find it. does anyone have a link saved to it? a1bummer Posted February 18, 2010 #3 Posted February 18, 2010 Thanks for that link! I've been looking for it as well.
dingy Posted February 18, 2010 #4 Posted February 18, 2010 Another thing that I did when I installed zerts in arm was to take a dremel tool and make a very small groove in the bushing where the zert runs into it. I took a small cutoff wheel and ran the groove radially along the bushing. About 1/16" deep. This gives the grease a path to distribute around bushing a little better. Gary
Guest seuadr Posted February 18, 2010 #5 Posted February 18, 2010 good thinking.. and an excuse to buy a dremel! i just ordered everything to rebuild the forks and all the master/slave cylinders on the bike today, got tires 2 days ago, new r1 calipers and SS brake lines (thanks skydoc!) man, everything is comming together except for the weather!
Guest seuadr Posted March 12, 2010 #6 Posted March 12, 2010 just a little bump with a possible correction? after reading the tech article it mentions a 1/4 by 24 tap as (i'm assuming) that the zerts had a 1/4th by 24 thread pitch. after searching high and low, i found out that (at least locally) the zerts they have here are 1/4th by 28 thread pitch and the hardware guy i spoke to at mid state bolt and screw was not familar with a 1/4th by 24 thread zert. just something to think about.
